Riverside Reports In Today's Uk Press

And I, I could be King…

Riverside reports are coming thick and fast now, with reports in much of this morning’s press here in the UK. Here are a few excerpts from some of the pieces:

The Guardian – An encore featuring a breathtaking version of 1979’s Fantastic Voyage restores equilibrium. Bowie exits looking pleased, with good reason. After all, most of his 1970s peers would be hard pushed to fill a sporty hatchback with fans eager to hear their new material, let alone 68 cinemas.

The Daily Star (Includes Brian Rasic pic, see above) – King Of The World – BOWIE MAKES HISTORY AS HE WOWS 50,000 FANS – ROCK god David Bowie is back! The British legend has launched his new album Reality with a groundbreaking concert beamed live to cinemas all over the world. (Go here to read the rest of the article on the MBs)

The Independent Review (Includes another Brian Rasic shot) – …the magnitude of the audience is impressive. After this, Bowie’s world tour almost seems like an unnecessary chore. (Blammo note: Shhhh. You’ll give him ideas!)

Daily Mirror – (Includes yet another Brian Rasic pic) (Blammo note: Under the heading: Bowie won’t do Bondage, this piece is mainly about how David explained his disinterest in all things post-Connery Bond, including turning down offers to record a Bond theme and an offer to play a Bond villain!)

The Sun – Anyone looking at rock legend David Bowie nowadays could be forgiven for thinking he’s some kind of alien. Bowie, 56, resembles a Space Oddity – who just happens to dress like David Beckham’s big brother.

But in Reality – his latest album – The Thin White Duke proves that he’s still in sparkling form…On the whole Bowie looks great, sounds great and is more relaxed and confident than ever.

Brit Awards Is A Go

We can now confirm the rumor that David Bowie and Placebo will perform together at the upcoming Brit Awards 1999. The event is to be broadcast on the ITV network on the 17th February, from 8pm till 10. PlaceboPlacebo began in 1996 with the critically acclaimed ‘Come Home’ single in January ’96, and toured Europe with David Bowie. Bowie was intrigued by Placebo, and at his request, Placebo supported him again on various dates throughout the ‘Earthling’ European summer tour in 1997. Placebo are also one of the nominees for best British Video with Pure Morning. David and Placebo will be teaming up for a duet, performing T-Rex’s classic 20th Century Boy. David had this to say about performing the Marc Bolan Classic:”When Marc was living in LA in the mid-seventies we re-established our friendship significantly and spent a lot of time together. Above all, Marc had the life enhancing ability of humour.Nothing and no-one was sacred. We both shared the same passion for mimicry and impersonation leading to evenings of pure ‘Stella Street’ though in my memory, far funnier of course, as we were privy to far more ‘inside’ knowledge of our victims than most. And, yes, we jammed, on more than one occasion, ’20th Cent: Boy’ We also nailed a pretty funky ‘Laughing Elf (or Alf in our case)”- David Bowie .

And The Winners Are

Over 500 entries came in for our “little” 24 hour ‘Fly on the Wall’ contest (though Lodger accounts for about 50 of them)! And believe it or not, ONLY 1 member got all 4 questions correct.
(answers below)

The real stumper was question # 4 – 72% of the answers that came in stated – “for design / packaging of Sound & Vision”.

While ‘Sound and Vision’ did win a Grammy for packaging – David himself did not win the Grammy – Roger Gorman from Reiner Design walked away with the award (besides our overall winner, only 1 other member answered this question correctly – Kelly-Marie Norris).

We tried to throw you all off a bit in question # 1 – asking in what country did David “perform” (not PLAY) in 1995.  David performed the role of DESIGNER for the poster of the Montreux Jazz Festival.

96% of the e-mails correctly answered questions 2 and 3.

OK – drum roll please…….and the first winner and only 4 right answer guru is

– MARCEL DE GROOT!!!

Since we had 100’s of members with 3 correct answers – we threw all the names in a big pile and picked out our 2nd winner

NEILL MILTON!!!

Congratulations.  We want to thank everybody who helped us with our contest/experiment.  Dr. Vic is working away at upgrading the camera.  Any additional feedback is welcome.  We will be using the BowieCam more and more – so any features/improvements you can think of will only help us in our quest to have the coolest 360 degree camera anywhere on the Web.
