Fame…what's Your Name?

Oooh that David Jones is soo common…

A report published by the Office for National Statistics yesterday, and reprinted in much of today’s UK press, suggests that if it hadn’t been the lead singer of The Monkees that had forced our David to change his name, then it probably wouldn’t have been long before another David Jones came along and forced the change anyway. A silly theory that bares no scrutiny I know, but I had to start this thing somehow.

You see, David Jones happens to be the most popular name for a male in Britain at the moment, with an incredible 15,763 sharing the combination of the Christian and surname that Margaret and Haywood chose for their son 53 years ago. Click on the image above for a league table of the 20 most popular male and female names in Britain today, but remember there’s only one David Bowie…probably…OK, I concede five or six before the smart alecs flood my in box!
