Hanson And Worlds

Who knew that the Hanson brothers would be such Web frontiersman? First the wholesome threesome hooked up with Internet impresario David Bowie and Ultrastar to create a state-of-the-art web presence. Now they’re taking another step into the unknown with a 3-D chat and concert on May 6. What do we mean by that? When fans go to www.worlds.com, they will be asked to create an “avatar,” essentially a paper-doll rendering of themselves, from a virtual ID kit. Fans can either approximate what they actually look like, or go wild and become a six-foot-tall amazon with blonde dreads. Then the super-fan creations will be able to chat with Zac, Taylor or Ike — or other fans who log in for the cyber event — or “experience the concert as if it were live,” or so the wigs at Worlds.com tell us. . .

Fame…what's Your Name?

Oooh that David Jones is soo common…

A report published by the Office for National Statistics yesterday, and reprinted in much of today’s UK press, suggests that if it hadn’t been the lead singer of The Monkees that had forced our David to change his name, then it probably wouldn’t have been long before another David Jones came along and forced the change anyway. A silly theory that bares no scrutiny I know, but I had to start this thing somehow.

You see, David Jones happens to be the most popular name for a male in Britain at the moment, with an incredible 15,763 sharing the combination of the Christian and surname that Margaret and Haywood chose for their son 53 years ago. Click on the image above for a league table of the 20 most popular male and female names in Britain today, but remember there’s only one David Bowie…probably…OK, I concede five or six before the smart alecs flood my in box!

Brother Bowie

Posted in The Globe and Mail, an interview with Trent Reznor, in which Trent mentions DB and his influence while they were touring. Here is a short clip from the interview:

“When I was around Bowie, I was nearing the bottom. When we were touring together, I looked at him as a kind of big-brother figure and I also looked at him as somebody I had a lot of respect for. The age and the period he’s at in his life, I’d like to be there some day. He has a kind of content peace about him that’s something to shoot for.”
