Bowie Demo From '71 Sold At Christie's

Bowie’s previously unheard demo recording of ‘Star’ was sold yesterday at Christie’s auction house in London. The recording reportedly fetched £1,527. The previously unheard ½ inch reel-to-reel studio 1971 demo recording, which is quite different in style and content to the familiar Ziggy Stardust album version, was given to singer Les Payne for him to cover.

New Placebo Cd For Your Questions!

The Bowienet interview with Placebo is this Friday, 29th September! Send in your questions now, and you might win a promo of their new album, BLACK MARKET MUSIC, or the single TASTE IN MEN.

The publicity machine for the new album is in full swing, with the above being just one of the front covers graced by the band at the moment. In the seven page article inside, ‘Rock Sound’ have this to say about the new album.

“There’s no mistaking a full throttle return to the fore with an album that will touch you in places you didn’t even know existed.”

Having listened to it, I really cannot disagree. These very diverse songs have immediate appeal, but also a subtlety which involves and intrigues more and more with each listen. If you liked the first two albums, you will also love this one, and if you are new to Placebo, this album could be a great place to start.

Omikron Clip!

Who will you be after you die?

Remember this game? Omikron: The Nomad Soul. If you’ve played it, then you may know that not only did David do the soundtrack for it, he also appears in animated form playing a concert somewhere in the game. Then again you may not, because we understand that it’s pretty deep into the game when you reach the concert. Anyhow, it is way cool and we have a clip of some of the action right here!

A Novell Idea

Watch out for a new international TV and radio ad campaign for Novell’s Net Services Software featuring David’s early 70’s classic “Changes.” This will be a major ad campaign, and here’s a tip! Keep your eye out for the fish bowls!

Jenny Takes A Ride!

To New York that is. Jenny Saville that is. Well, that’s NOT Jenny in the picture. That’s the model who heroically posed for hours at the New York Academy of Art. Jenny, one of the great new British painters, was in town to give lectures and classes. DB went along to take it all in – and even wrote a new journal entry to mark the occasion!

Riff Raff Reff

Hmmmmm?

Find out the “ref” of this story (ouch) by going to David’s latest diary entry (just click image above)!

That’s right, David has posted not one but two new journal entries over the weekend!

Thank you Sailor!!
