Greek Theatre Pictures, Set List And P R

“My, my, Smile at least, You can’t say no to the Beauty and the Beast.” – Marilyn Manson,
David Bowie and Lara Flynn Boyle backstage at the Greek Theatre courtesy of Lester Cohen.

The stars look so special…

David Bowie’s return to LA for his show at the Greek Theatre was a star-studded affair indeed. Apart from Marilyn Manson and Lara Flynn Boyle, pictured with DB above, you can also view a bunch of pictures in Virtual Ticket of David with Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, Johnny Knoxville, Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Brian Setzer, Rosanna Arquette, Luc Besson, Gavin Rossdale and last, but by no means least, ex-Bowie guitarist, Page Hamilton. All of the pictures were very kindly supplied by the quite brilliant Lester Cohen with permission from WireImage.com. Thanks Laura.

You can also view Lester’s live shots from the show by clicking on the montage above. Speaking of the show itself, David played the elusive Try Some, Buy Some for the first time in a long time and The Polyphonic Spree joined him once more for Slip Away.

I’ve posted the press release below, which mentions David’s recent activities, (including last night’s show) and is absolutely jam-packed with snippets of reviews from this leg of the tour.

Before I post the press release, here’s the set list sent in by BowieNetters simone, beau and crystaltjapancrystaltjapan also listed Reality in her offering but this is at odds with simone and beau, and indeed, with the officially-confirmed version offered by HNB:

Monaco Presale Details

Well, how come you only want tomorrow…

OK, as we told you yesterday, those of you that want tickets for David’s intimate July 21st show in Monaco need to be logged on to BowieNet at 9:00am tomorrow morning, (Friday) UK time.

At aforementioned time, a link to the ticket page and a password will be posted in the news. Tickets will be 120 Euros each and will be restricted to two per member.

Alain, the promoter for this show, has kindly managed to get access to the Club du Sporting for the purchasers of the first 30 tickets. This is the VIP area of the venue where the glitterati tend to hang out after the show.

But, please note we are not suggesting David will be present… in fact, with his schedule, any sane man in his position would get his head down for a bit of kip directly after the show! But then again, he’s a nutter… so you never know!

The public sale will begin at the same time on Monday morning, but BowieNetters have this exclusive first chance at tickets to this 1,000 capacity show. Good luck, children.

Monaco Presale Starts Now

It’s happening now…

OK, we all know what you’re after. Go here and enter the password; newton in the field that says: 3. You have an access code or a IATA number, enter it and Click on ‘Continue’:

After you’ve entered the password, click on Continue. Follow the instructions and don’t forget to enter the ticket quantity. You can purchase a maximum of 2 tickets. Good luck.

Bowienet Presale For Monaco Starts Friday

Friday On My Mind…

We are pleased to be able to announce the 20th date so far for David Bowie’s European Summer shows. A Reality Tour will play to an intimate gathering of 1,000 fans in Monaco on Wednesday July 21st, and BowieNet members will have the chance to get tickets for this exclusive show from Friday, ahead of the public sale on Monday.

Tickets will be priced at 120 Euros each and will be available via a BowieNet link on Friday morning at 9:00am UK time.

I’ll be posting more details late on Thursday, but if you will be wanting a ticket, be sure to log in on Friday morning.

Prague Venue Has Changed!

I ran to the street, looking for information…

OK, contrary to our recent announcement, there HAS been a change of venue for the Prague show on Wednesday June 23rd. Originally the T-Zone Amphitheatre in Prague 11 was the planned venue, but now the show will take place at Park Kolbenova in Prague 9 – Vysoèany (100 m from the metro B station “Kolbenova”).

Tickets for the original venue (T-Mobile Park, Chodov) will still be valid for the new one and I’ve updated the original story with the correct information.

Despite this information being published in a local newspaper and elsewhere, the tour promoters insisted to us that there was no change and that the story had been retracted by the newspaper that published it.

Thankfully, you BowieNetters were insistent in your e-mails to me that there had been a venue change, and after a flurry of e-mails and some frantic telephone calls over the weekend, the tour promoter finally agreed this morning that the venue has indeed changed to Prague 9. Grrrrrr

So thanx to all of you that kept pushing on this one, particularly BowieNetters jimreeve, andyandy and Richard (sorry didn’t get your user name), and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience our misinformation may have caused.

Santa Barbara Pictures And Set List

“Right, are you ready to rock?” – “Yes Left. let’s go kick some Santa Barbara Arse!”

To talk of stars and kings and feet…

A Reality Tour visited the beautiful surrounds of the County Bowl in Santa Barbara last night. David was joined by The Polyphonic Spree for Slip Away again, and BowieNet members can see evidence of that, and more, via another lot of Erik‘s pictures in the VT section now.

I’ve not seen any online reports of the show just yet, but check back on the last couple of Berkeley news items for some brilliant reports from BowieNetter Charly… she’s so good at getting that banter down.

Everybody is welcome to contribute a live report to BowieNet news. Just e-mail it to me as quickly as you can after the show. I can’t promise we’ll use it, but if we don’t have anything from you, then we definitely can’t use it. You can always share with the members on the boards, even if we can’t use it.

Here’s the 26-song set list kindly supplied by BowieNetter, simone, and officially confirmed by HNB.

A Reality Tour continues on Thursday at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, about which, David said this in his most recent journal:

The gig at the Greek Theatre should be full of nostalgia, I would imagine, as I haven’t been there for a month of Sundays. It’s the re-opening night I believe, as it’s been restored over the last while and was closed down for concerts for a very long time. I shall play the Supermen, oh, yes I shall.

Please let me know how it goes kidz.

Ellen And Jay Shows This Week

I’ll give you television, I’ll give you eyes of blue… (kind of)

As mentioned by Spaceface in the BowieNet calendar absolutely yonks ago, and by David Bowie in his journal today, (see below) our man is due to tape two American TV shows over the next couple of days. Here’s how he said it in his journal: “This week it’s all about Hollywood I suppose. We shall record the Ellen show Tuesday and then the Leno thing the day after.”

And he’s not fibbing either. Here’s the taping and broadcast dates:

The Ellen DeGeneres Show: Tapes Tuesday April 20th. Broadcasts Friday April 23rd – “He?s here! Rock & Roll legend DAVID BOWIE performs a song from his new CD ?Reality,? and one of his classics!”

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno: Tapes Wednesday April 21st. Broadcasts same day – “David Bowie, the LEGEND, performs “Never Get Old” from his latest, critically-acclaimed album, Reality”

It’s worth also noting that “The Polyphonic Spree take their upbeat choral-style pop to town on “Light & Day” from their CD, Beginning Stages Of…” on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno tomorrow. (Tuesday)

Rngo Digital Download And 12 Inch Picture Disc

Ch ch ch ch changes…

The Mark Vidler produced RNGO mash-up that we told you about recently (04.07.2004 NEWS: BOWIE/AUDI/SONY MASH-UP PRESS RELEASE) has now been put back until May. Currently scheduled as a download only release in the US via i-Tunes on May 4th, a 12″ picture disc will also be made available around the same time via specialist shops in Europe. This will be a limited release along the lines of the Tao Jones Index 12″ single of yesteryear.

Here is the track listing and running times for the four-track picture disc:

A1: Radio Mix (3:25)
A2: 7th Heaven Edit (4:17)

B1: 7th Heaven Mix (7:22)
B2: Days (3:19)

For those among you that don’t dig vinyl, there will also be a promo CD with the same tracks. We’ll have a number of those here on BowieNet for a competition nearer the time of release, along with some picture discs.

For the thoroughly modern kidz who don’t need tangible product in their mitts, there will be a European download sometime in June too.

Speaking of mash-ups, the results for the first round of voting in the Audi competition are now in. If you’ve not already heard them, click on the image above to listen now.

Stay tuned to BowieNet for some more RNGO related news very soon.

Berkeley #2 – Pictures And Set List

David Bowie on stage at the Berkeley Community Centre a few short hours ago.

Here it comes again…

A triumphant David Bowie has left the stage of the Berkeley Community Centre, following his second show at the venue. Rather than wait for any reports as such, I thought I’d get Erik‘s pictures and the set list posted right away. I will be following up with some fan pictures and a review from BowieNetter charly tomorrow.

Here’s the 28-song set list kindly supplied by BowieNetters, charly, susans and legal_alien, not yet officially confirmed by HNB, who has been caught napping and is most likely producing more CRAP for our enjoyment.

As I say, here’s the set list, independently supplied by three very reliable BowieNetters, and for that reason I’m 100% confident of its accuracy:

UPDATE: Here’s another report from BowieNetter Charly, entitled: Sex On A Zimmer Frame

This evening’s show was welcomed with much anticipation, if it was to be anything like last night, we were in for yet another mad treat. Rebel Rebel began proceedings as usual, Bowie welcomed us (slightly more politely than the night before) and then continued with New Killer Star. “Hi, what you up to?” he enquired. “It’s Saturday night, you should be out somewhere enjoying yourselves”. Looking For Water then graced us and was really rocky. It’s great live. David threw a guitar pick out into the audience and asked “Hold onto this for me. I’ll ask for it back later”. No introduction for Cactus tonight, straight into the song, although he did sing a little extra line at the beginning. “Been told not to talk too much”. Perhaps someone said something to him after last night. Bores – his comical banter is half the fun! Someone threw on a grey dress, (See pic in VT) which an amused Bowie held up and at the end of the song and requested some identification: “So who’s been inside this?” He then pointed at a bloke near the front and said “Ah, you sir. Well thank you, very much appreciated. John is it?” Ha ha.

Reality brought the house down, loud and fierce, another great live rocker. Tristan the cable man untangled Bowie’s wires at the end of the song which provoked Bowie to beckon him over and tease him. “That’s my valet, Tristan”. Bowie then handed Tristan his jacket (the first one) “Will you valet that for me”. Tristan obligingly took it and wandered off stage. “He only does wires, doesn’t do jackets”. He was clearly in a mad mood tonight as he turned round, pointed at Gail and shouted “Sex on a stick”. Looking back at the audience, “I’m more sex on a zimmer frame. Better than being sex on a zimmer. Sorry, I shouldn’t be talking”.

All The Young Dudes and China Girl followed, after which Bowie took a drink, telling us he had something stuck in his throat. Putting his fingers in his mouth and wrestling them around a little he then declared “It’s my tongue!” He did a credible impression of Lou reed, saying he’d been talking to him about throat problems and had asked how Lou overcame them. Producing a spray he told us about ‘Entertainer’s Secret’. “Tastes vile but great for the voice!”

We were then treated to New Career In A New Town, my personal favourite from Low, so I was very happy to hear that again. The Motel and Loneliest Guy provided back to back slowies, which saw most of the audience sitting down (yawn). Bowie declared “It’s got bottom” of the latter, explaining to the mostly American audience that it was an English phrase giving emphasis, and again said it with a rather upper crust English accent. Laughing as they went into Panic In Detroit, another great one I wish he’d do more. Let’s Dance perplexed quite a few people around me, I could see the look on their faces as the intro began. Suddenly realising the words their confused expressions turned to pleasure, ahhhh!

At the end of that, Bowie told us a little rhyme. “The other day upon the stair, I met a man who wasn’t there. He wasn’t there again today, I think he’s from the CIA”. And elaborated to us that it was from this kids rhyme that he wrote the next song, The Man Who Sold The World. The next song, The Supermen, “…has the silliest lyric in the world” said Bowie, while playing with the sound effects pedal for his microphone. Still a damn good song though, especially live.

The next introduction was simple. “Here’s a couple of songs from an album called Heathen. The first one’s called Sunday, the second one’s Heathen.” The Band intro came next and was quite sensible (compared to numerous others) until he got to Gerry. “Gerry Leonard, man of a thousand, somethings. What have you got a thousand of Gerry?” Gerry replied “Thousand Island Dressing”. Under Pressure yet again awoke the audience, and then Days calmed them down again. Someone handed David an envelope which he jokingly opened saying in a rather wimpish voice, “Dear Davy, please play us a song”.

The next surprise tonight was Always Crashing In The Same Car, another great Low number, after which he did a rather silly impression of Larry Grayson “Where’s that Gail, shut that door”. Pablo Picasso was rousing and lively, before Bowie came to the front of the stage and bent down saying “hello”. He took a piece of paper off a little kid, whose name I think was Jeremy (couldn’t quite tell what David said). He unfolded it to reveal a picture which he wanted to show the audience. He asked which camera to hold it up to and wandered around the stage to every other camera except the right one, the images being projected on the video screens at the back of the stage. He joked “Mark, you do this every night. Does it always look like that? Crikey!” Ok, now to the right camera and we could all see the coloured pic of David that had been drawn. “Dear David Bowie, my Dad met you 18 years ago and says can he have that $15 he lent you back…” Bless.

After Ashes To Ashes, Bowie said in his most sincere voice “Well, we’re having a good time tonight, personally I’ve never been happier. I mean that sincerely”. He could have said it with a little more conviction though! The next three songs ended the set, with little banter from David before Disco King opened up the encores. Three more Ziggy numbers and the night drew to a close once more. Bowie muttered “Good night, piss off, God bless” before the band came to the front for the communal bow. Although there wasn’t much unison between them tonight. And that, is San Francisco done with.

Thanx again Charly, see you for that beer very soon!

A Reality Tour continues tomorrow at the County Bowl in Santa Barbara.

Another Journal From Db… And It's A Long One!

I’m closer to The Golden Disc…

You better believe it kidz… just one week since his last journal, David has written another just for you BowieNet members. I’m giving nothing away, apart from the montage above, the lyric quote and the fact that it’s one of those great enthusiastically nostalgic journals that makes you want to go and start researching stuff.

BowieNet members can see DB’s latest entry (oooer) by clicking on the image above.
