Db's Arnold Layne On Radio 2 This Morning Plus Ep Update

Nothing can hide for long, We are the morning song…

As I mentioned on the MBs yesterday, David Bowie’s rendition of Pink Floyd‘s Arnold Layne that he performed with Dave Gilmour at the Royal Albert Hall in May, (05.30.2006 NEWS: DB SURPRISE GUEST AT LONDON GILMOUR GIG) is to receive its first radio play on Ken Bruce‘s show on Radio 2 this morning between 9:30am and midday…though my spies at the BBC tell me that it’s likely to be played more specifically at about 11.30am. But don’t blame me if that turns out to be inaccurate. (In the event the track was played around 11.15am for those of you that need to listen again.)

The song has already made it to the B LIST on the Radio 2 Playlist, this means that you can expect to hear it around ten times during the course of the week from Saturday. However, the more requests the track receives from listeners, (see Ken’s e-mail addy above) the bigger the chance it has of making it on to the A list where it would receive around twenty plays per week.

Don’t worry if you miss all of the live plays, you’ll still be able to use the listen again feature on Ken’s home page by clicking on the closest thing Radio 2 has to a Mike Garson look-alike, above.

Even more exciting than this radio news is the fact that you’ll be able to watch the video on David Gilmour’s site from Monday (December 4th), so be sure to log on and check it out. (Radio 2 has now scooped this exclusive, see update below.)

As we reported last month, (11.13.2006 NEWS: DB’S ARNOLD LAYNE ISSUED ON EP IN MEMORY OF SYD) the upcoming 3-track EP (above) will be available to download from iTunes, and other digital media, from Christmas Day onwards.

The very next day, there will be a limited 7″ pressing in Europe and a 10″ version in North America, both expected to be restricted to approximately 5,000 copies based on the initial orders.

So be sure to pre-order a copy at your local record emporium to avoid disappointment, as there will most likely be just as many interested Gilmour fans as there will be Bowie fans…not to mention Richard Wright and Syd Barrett fans!

There will also be a CD single available in Europe only. You will be able to hear David Gilmour introducing DB on-stage on the vinyl versions, but not on the CD. These will all be available from Tuesday 26th December.
