Holiday Message From Db And Family

Tiny Tim sings prayers and hymns, he’s so small we don’t notice him…

David has sent in the following seasonal greeting for you all…

———————————————————————————————————————–

Happy holidays and a rolypoly merry ol’ Nicholasy Christmas to us all, Tiny Tim as well.

David and family

———————————————————————————————————————–

I’m guessing he means the Tiny Tim of Dickens? A Christmas Carol, (above right) as opposed to he of nimble footwork through the Dutch flowers on the left.

I’m sure you know that the latter Tiny Tim (actually a very large chap) also covered the Biff Rose song Fill Your Heart which David pretty well made his own with his wonderfully uplifting version on Hunky Dory…Either way, whichever version you prefer, the song carries a pretty cool message for this time of year…or any other, for that matter.

Anyway, thanks David …all love back at you and yours, and to everybody else reading this, from everyone here at BowieNet.

Members are welcome to respond to David via this thread on the MBs.

Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow…

You’ve been very patient waiting for the final part of this contest. But, I’m afraid that doesn’t mean I’m going to make things any easier for you.

Here’s the third and final question…

It was conclusively proved that the cow in the foreground of the painting above could not differentiate between what and what?

The answer is out there on the World Wide Super Information Highway, though I imagine the majority of you know the answer without having to research it. };-)

When you have the answer, send it to me here along with the answers to questions one and two. (12.05.2007 NEWS: DELUXE DAVID BOWIE BOX SET CONTEST & 12.06.2007 NEWS: DELUXE DAVID BOWIE BOX SET CONTEST – PART 2)

Tv Producing Raphael And Klaxons

Oh man, I need TV…

Speaking of the French, (see yesterday’s news) Tony Visconti is currently producing some tracks for the French artist, Raphaël. That’s him above, pictured with Tony V in Paris a few days ago.

You may remember that Raphaël opened for David at the Olympia Theatre in Paris on July 1st 2002. (07.02.2002 NEWS: LAST NIGHT’S PARIS SHOW RECORDED FOR TV) Well now the self-confessed Bowie fan takes the association further, as, apart from the production skills of TV, Raphaël has enlisted DB veteran musicians Mike Garson, Gail Ann Dorsey, Robert Aaron, Zack Alford and Carlos Alomar.

You can get a flavour of Raphaël by clicking on his visage in the shot above, from where you will be magically transported to his MySpace page.

Tony will also be producing some of the second Klaxons‘ album next March. Klaxons are a band that I’m sure you will remember David Bowie gave the thumbs up to for Music Recommenders over a year ago. Dg Talks To Js About Db

He dug it…

The very lovely Jerome Soligny sent this in a couple of weeks back, but I think it’s still relevant enough to reproduce here. Over to you, Jerome…

————————————————————————————————————–

A few weeks ago, David Gilmour gave me a ring at home to talk about his recent double-DVD (road-movie of the On An Island tour + concert at The Royal Albert Hall featuring, among prestigious guests, none other than David Bowie). The whole interview will be in my book “Writing On The Edge”, out next year. A third of the interview will be in the last Rock&Folk of the year (out December 15) and here’s the Bowie bit for you, fellow bowienetters. Enjoy.

JS: And what about David Bowie? First, it?s great to have David sing anything, but he came to the RAH when everybody was wondering what he was up to. You?re not interested in scoops and you don?t have the reputation to do like sensational things but you actually did here!

David Gilmour: I knew that he?d been ill at some point but I didn?t know he hadn?t sort of carried on? Our tour-manager, the guy who looks after us on the road, works with Bowie all the time and when we were in New York he said he had lunch with him and I said ?Oh, see if he wants to come and sing a song.? So he asked him and he said yes. Again, very, very simple, easy? He said he?d love to come do ?Arnold Layne? and sing ?Comfortably Numb? as well.

JS: And how did it go?

DG: Well you know he?s so unmistakably himself, a bit like Crosby & Nash really, but he just takes the song, you know, grabs it, and does it his own special way, which makes it very different.

JS: I think it was a great idea to have him sing one of the songs responsible for who he is in a way?

DG: I guess Syd?s probably a part of his influence.

JS: What did you think of his version of ?See Emily Play? at the time?

DG: I listened to it years ago but I can?t really quite remember it. That?s on the ?Pin-Ups? album, right?

JS: Yeah, and it was actually recorded in France. It’s a great cover, as is the rest of the album, and there?s some great drumming by Aynsley Dunbar and a fantastic piano part by Mike Garson

DG: OK then, I guess I?ll have to listen to it again!

Last but not least, it should be mentioned that David is absolutely hilarious in the documentary. When he mentions the fact his parents took him to a Pink Floyd gig when he “was 6 or something”, and when he says “3-D, 3-D!” when surrounded with two other Davids: Crosby and Gilmour. For those who worry about his “morale”, our man seems like more than OK.

Thanx Jerome…Look forward to reading Writing On The Edge next year…of which we’ll have more details nearer the time.

Make Somebody Special A Ziggy For Christmas

And I looked and frowned and the monster was me…

Knitted Icons: 25 Legends from Audrey Hepburn to Ziggy Stardust is the newly-released book by Carol Meldrum, published by Collins & Brown.

The book includes: “Colour photography and easy-to-follow instructions for the doll and wardrobe changes are included. In addition, the book features basic knitting instructions and includes a basic doll pattern and techniques for altering body shape and facial features.”

Well, going by the example above, you may very well want to “alter body shape and facial features”! Sorry Carol, as cute as the little fellow is, he’s more Blobby Stardust than Ziggy Stardust!

Can somebody out there do better? We’ll post the results here in the news if any of you want to give it a go.

An altogether more ambitious creation is the Ziggy model that first appeared in the above Scale Models magazine from June 1974. The model was based on a Mick Rock shot from the 1973 UK tour, see below.

Obviously a lot more work went into this one and if you’re keen to make your own version click on the above image to see a larger version of the rather amusing instructions page over on THE ZIGGY STARDUST COMPANION.

If you have the patience, you may just end up with something close to the fine specimen below…

If you do give either of these a go, please let us see the results, however successful they may be.

FOOTNOTE: BowieNetter aucourant has started a thread with pictures of some other Bowie models that’s worth taking a look at.

Deluxe David Bowie Box Set Contest – Part 2

Pay the private eye…

See yesterday’s news for part one of this contest. Meanwhile, here’s question number two…

Who is the rather inquisitive looking, if not a little unkempt, character in the picture above?

How easy was that? Shall I make the next one a little more difficult? There are signed David Bowie boxes at stake here after all.

Either way, please don’t send in your answers until you have the third and final part.
