Ziggy Stardust Mixed Up, Mashed And Mgmt'd

Really quite paradise…

I was alerted to the above recording via a Google alert yesterday, as I’m sure many of you reading this were too. The alert pointed to a piece on www.prefixmag.com that said this…

ATOM, A plus D, World Famous Audio Hacker, ToToM, and dj BC have remixed and mashed-up David Bowie’s classic The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars album.

You can stream the music and watch a couple videos produced for the occasion by VJ Brewski and AJ ‘Hatperson’ Mazur online on the Ziggy Remixed website.

The results? Well, it’s a mixed bag. I could do without the mashup of “Stardust Kids,” which employs Bowie’s vocals and the music from MGMT’s “Kids.” And I suppose it depends what kind of Bowie fan you are. If you are a purist, you might want to consider ignoring this blog post altogether. However, if you are a little more open-minded, check out DJ BC’s “Sufferin’ Remix” of “Suffraggette City.” Gold dust on the disco floor brilliant.

I was saddened to read the low opinion of Stardust Kids as I rated the MGMT album one of the very best of 2008, not to mention its attendant singles…Kids being one of them.

I hopped over to the Ziggy Remixed website and thought I’d make up my own mind about Stardust Kids. It was the first track I listened to and I spent the rest of yesterday listening to that track alone…The reviewer at prefixmag can’t have been using all their ears. I think Stardust Kids is genius, mashing Kids with Lady Stardust in an exciting and convincing slice of pure pop magic.

When I finally got around to listening to the rest of the album it was pleasing to note that there were many good ideas on it. But, I have to say I don’t think anything else comes close to Stardust Kids.

Anyway, my opinion is no more valid than prefixmag’s, so it’s best you go and make up your own mind.
