A gentle face you’ve seen before…

Mr Duff does his regular Ziggy thing at The Vanguard in NSW, Australia, on Sunday night. Click on the poster above for details.

I have to say the origin of Jeff’s Ziggy poster has been nagging me since we first used it here on BowieNet back in 2006. (10.07.2006 NEWS: ZIGGY AT THE VANGUARD IN SYDNEY NEXT WEEKEND)

However, my memory was jogged while working on the recent piece about Madman magazine and issue #4 of Red Rocket 7 back in May. (05.10.2009 NEWS: MADMAN ISSUE #15 FINALLY ON THE SHELVES)

Here’s the relevant window from the strip…

Labyrinth Sing-a-long In Massachusetts

I wish to sing a sing-a-long song, A sing-a-long song is fine…

Following on from the Labyrinth sing-along in New York in January, (01.06.2009 NEWS: SINGALONGA LABYRINTH IN NEW YORK ON FRIDAY) and the one in Atlanta last month, (06.05.2009 NEWS: LABYRINTH SATURDAY SING-ALONG IN ATLANTA) the Massachusetts Museum Of Contemporary Art will now be hosting a Labyrinth Sing-A-Long on Thursday, August 27th.

Here’s an edited excerpt from the press release…

———————————————————————————————————————–

MASS MoCA has been showing enthusiastic crowds outdoor films and sing-a-longs for the past decade, and the tradition continues this year with a sing-a-long version of the famous cult classic Labyrinth. The film will enchant families and David Bowie enthusiasts alike, offering a chance to enjoy an ?80s themed night of fantasy and fun while singing as loud as they want. Costumes are encouraged. Labyrinth includes subtitles for the song lyrics for anyone needing a reminder.

A cross between The Never-ending Story and The Wizard of Oz, Labyrinth brings together the talents of several leading lights of entertainment, including the incomparable puppetry of Jim Henson, the awkwardly hilarious storytelling of Monty Python?s Terry Jones, and the movie-making talents of sci-fi director and producer George Lucas. Rounding out this dream team are icons David Bowie, who wrote and performed all the music for the film, and Jennifer Connelly in the lead roles.

?A real masterpiece of puppetry and special effects, an absolutely gorgeous children’s fantasy movie,? says The Chicago Tribune.

Peter Murphy Releases Space Oddity Single

Down in space, its always 1982…

Peter Murphy of popular singing combo, Bauhaus, has released a 6:32 minute solo version of Space Oddity via iTunes as the second part of his Secret Cover campaign…John Lennon‘s Instant Karma being the first.

You may remember that Bauhaus are one of a select few that have taken a Bowie composition into the UK Top 20 singles chart, which they did with their cover of Ziggy Stardust in 1982.

It’s unlikely that this release will equal the success of Bauhaus’s Ziggy Stardust, but it’s an affectionate and heartfelt version that I’m sure many of you will enjoy.

Peter has been closing shows on his current tour with Space Oddity apparently much to the appreciation of his audience.
