Make Somebody Special A Ziggy For Christmas

And I looked and frowned and the monster was me…

Knitted Icons: 25 Legends from Audrey Hepburn to Ziggy Stardust is the newly-released book by Carol Meldrum, published by Collins & Brown.

The book includes: “Colour photography and easy-to-follow instructions for the doll and wardrobe changes are included. In addition, the book features basic knitting instructions and includes a basic doll pattern and techniques for altering body shape and facial features.”

Well, going by the example above, you may very well want to “alter body shape and facial features”! Sorry Carol, as cute as the little fellow is, he’s more Blobby Stardust than Ziggy Stardust!

Can somebody out there do better? We’ll post the results here in the news if any of you want to give it a go.

An altogether more ambitious creation is the Ziggy model that first appeared in the above Scale Models magazine from June 1974. The model was based on a Mick Rock shot from the 1973 UK tour, see below.

Obviously a lot more work went into this one and if you’re keen to make your own version click on the above image to see a larger version of the rather amusing instructions page over on THE ZIGGY STARDUST COMPANION.

If you have the patience, you may just end up with something close to the fine specimen below…

If you do give either of these a go, please let us see the results, however successful they may be.
