Franz Ferdinand And Keane Cover Bowie For Radio 1 Cd

Waiting for the gift of Sound And Vision…

The Sun newspaper in the UK has an exclusive report today regarding an upcoming compilation CD for which artists have recorded special cover versions to celebrate Radio 1’s 40th birthday in September.

The 40-track CD, due on October 1st, will include specially recorded versions of songs which originally charted in the UK between the years 1967 to 2006.

There will be one track representing each of the forty years, including two Bowie-relevant songs: Sound And Vision (1977) by Franz Ferdinand and Under Pressure (1981) by by Keane.

Franz Ferdinand’s love of David Bowie’s music has been well-documented on these pages in recent years, (10.07.2004 NEWS: DB DIGS FRANZ – FRANZ DIGS DB & 08.21.2005 NEWS: SCISSOR SISTERS AND FRANZ FERDINAND DO BOWIE & 09.22.2005 NEWS: ALEX K ON NEW LP INSPIRATION AND DB LYRICS) with news of at least two Bowie numbers covered by different incarnations of the band. (Suffragette City and Always Crashing In The Same Car)

However, it’s good to see that Keane are also keen (sorry) to cover a Bowie track, in the shape of the Bowie/Queen-penned classic from 1981.
