Bowie Is Nme's New Music Tipster Of The Week

You saw him hangin’ at the NME…

The current issue of popular UK music weekly, NME, (31st March 2007) has a preview of a few of the things that can be found on NME.com this week, including new music tips from: “Music Recommenders’ godfather – the ever-discerning David Bowie.”

Basically it’s a lift of a couple of David’s recent recommendations by Honeytrap and Tap Tap. It seems a few of the bands picked by DB for Music Recommenders are quite excited that our man should have singled them out, as demonstrated by this excerpt from a piece on Honeytrap’s local news site

A COVENTRY band has received the ultimate vote of confidence from one of the most influential figures in rock music history – the legendary David Bowie. Bowie picked Honeytrap’s song Mussolini’s Son as his favourite track of the moment in a national newspaper article.

Bowie’s patronage of now firmly established acts such as The Arcade Fire is widely understood as being instrumental to their current success. And such endorsement of Honeytrap may yet yield similar results. Honeytrap are signed to Coventry-based label Tough Love Records and the song appears on the band’s The Naked Dancing EP.

Label co-founder Stephen Pietrzykowski said: “I received a call informing me that David Bowie had voted Mussolini’s Son as the number one record in an article in the Times. I couldn’t quite believe that someone of his prominence had even heard the record, let alone liked it enough to vote it number one in his list.”

Many of the other bands chosen by David have also gratefully acknowledged the fact on their MySpace pages.
