DB does the Polyphonic dance in Philly last night.
I’m sinking in the Quicksand…
After an absence from live performance for a whole fortnight, David Bowie last night finally managed to conquer his demons with a much-anticipated return to the stage at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA. Actually, he just had a couple of weeks between shows, but it does seem an age since Hong Kong.
It was a familiar set opening with both Rebel Rebel and the now customary greeting accusations of incest. Here are a few very brief BowieNetter impressions to give you a tiny flavour of what went on… First up is PeaceFrog33:
It was a great show especially for me, a first time Bowie concert goer. Bowie was really funny tonight , especially when he messed up the lines to Quicksand. He stopped and said “Nobody leaves until I can do a slow song right!” So he did Life On Mars? (which BTW was AMAZING!)
Then while the band was changing instruments to retry Quicksand, Bowie said “So while the band changes their instruments…..um…..How bout this election? I don’t go anywhere near elections, I just sing songs about black magic and Satan!” Also, he said he should be more like The Polyphonic Spree. “Their should be more of this.” (He then jumped side by side while clapping) It was HILARIOUS! Great show!!!!

“The Polyphonic….oh my….GREAT energy… And DB? New scarf, new jacket (and he so teased us with yet ANOTHER jacket under the new one), and a smile that could crack glass. He was in excellent spirits, and even performed his own interpretation of the Polyphonic Spree’s bopping dance.
He screwed up Quicksand the first go, but he’s forgiven, just for being such a babe. The man had so much HIP ACTION you’d think he was auditioning for a dancing cabana boy, or something. The hips were crazy, the thrusts were out of control, and the way he worked the stage made me realize that he is a photographer’s whore! LOL. Me, oh my.
And here’s Saxonny:
“The concert was fabulous. What a way to kick off the second leg of the U.S. Reality tour. The band rocked and Bowie sounded completely relaxed and refreshed; the energy level on stage really filtered through the crowd. At the “Morning After Diner” at mandn’s house, we all agreed that this concert really showcased the band’s talents. Garson had a fabulous little solo during Life on Mars, and Slick and Gerry were just…stunning during their moments. Philadelphia is Gail Ann Dorsey’s hometown, and she took the crowd’s breath away during Under Pressure.
They did something new; they played Sunday and then went STRAIGHT into Heathen. (Erm… that wasn’t the first time Sax, nevertheless… Blammo) It was poignant and beautiful and the entire crowd was still as they absorbed the music. And of course, the Quicksand incident, well, I won’t bother to go into that – I’m sure its been discussed to death on the boards. The new jacket was gorgeous, wish we could get a picture of it.
Gwnavere and Saxonny are good friends.
