It Really Happened!

Last night, David Bowie (accompanied by the winner of the Cyber Song Contest and co-author, Alex Grant) made music and Internet history by completing the first “Cyber-Song” LIVE on the Internet.

From selecting the lyrics, to rehearsal, recording and mixing of the song, Internet users were right there, every step of the way, in the creation of the Cyber Song “What’s Really Happening.”

Utilizing both traditional streaming video technology and the new Lucent 360 “BowieCam”, BowieNet brought the World Wide Web into the studio with David Bowie and crew for over 3 hours, providing a ground breaking “insiders view” into the studio session.

The entire process of recording a song was de-mystified and opened for all to see. The session included rock guitar maven Reeves Gabrels recording guitar solos, and was produced by Mark Plati, who also laid down a few bass lines for this track.

Bowie, recorded vocals and coached young Alex Grant and Larry Tressler (Alex’s buddy) through their virgin “background vocals” recording. As a special treat, Bowie, Reeves, Plati, Alex Grant and several other participants took turns chatting with BowieNet members, who rapid-fired them all with questions, jokes and praise. All in all, it was a great evening. Special Thanks to Vic from Lucent Technologies and the Tunes.com crew.

In the coming weeks, BowieNet will post archived versions of the studio session, as well as photos and other treats from last night’s event. Stay tuned for more?
