Bowiebanc – The World Catches Up!

‘Gonna find her some money honey’

Months after the announcement on BowieNet of the launch of BowieBanc.com the story has finally brokenon many online news services. At least one of these items, quotes BowieNet’s very own action-hero andlover of the Bolanesque, Ron Roy. Here is a snippet from the news service supplied by dotmusic.com:

Ron Roy, one of Bowie’s partners in the new online bank, commented “David has always pridedhimself on being first”. Roy is also involved in the legendary rocker’s online company UltraStarand his Internet service provider, Bowienet… It is hoped by Bowie and his partners that fans will wishto use the bank, to show their loyalty and passion for the ever changing brand that is David Bowie. Roysaid “You’ve got a passion for something, you want to show your passion.”

Unfortunately the service doesn’t seem to be available to us fans in Europe, so how long before voided UScards start to appear on ebay?!

It appears that the only national here in the UK to announce the launch of BowieBanc.com today, was theBowie-championing Daily Star who ran a short piece that can be read by clicking the above image or goingto their web site here. It would seem that the Star has a fan in its midst.

Virgin Fancies David Bowie

Survive‘ is the single of
the week on Virgin Radio

Mad-cap zany DJ Chris Evans (I’ve always wanted to use that one), this morning made the everch-ch-ch-ch-changing chameleon-like David Bowie’s (and that one) latest release ‘Survive’ the Breakfast Show Single of the Week on Virgin Radio, where it will remain until this time next week. This move increases the chances of the song going to the top of the UK Hit Parade (and that too!) due to the popularity of the show.

Glasto 2k Fan Vote

The UK’s biggest open-air extravaganza, The Glastonbury Festival, to take place on June 23, 24 and 25, is now, for the first time in Festival history, asking fans to help choose artists that they would like to see perform. The voting takes place from the Official Glastonbury Festival website.

The vote has been suspended temporarily due to technical problems, so bookmark the site, and check back often (also check back here for updates). There is also a Glastonbury 2000 Rumours page with snippets about prospective artists, like DB!

NME.com has run a story about the fan poll in it’s ‘Latest News‘ section. Click here to visit the story.

The panel cast their vote on Live and Kicking

Live and Kicking is a Saturday morning show aimed primarily at young persons here in the UK, while still managingto attract great hulking brutes such as myself. Of interest to most of you however, is the bit where an assembledcast of celebs view videos of new releases, and vote on the likely chart performance of said recording. Click on theabove image to see the outcome.

The Millennium Party

The BBC last night repeated highlights of The Millennium Party concert held in Greenwich, London, last year. Whilefor some the event may have indeed been a god-awful small affair with the likes of Martine McCutcheon, EltonJohn, Lesley Garrett and the Spice Girls for entertainment, any Bowie fans in the audience would have beendelighted by the inclusion of ‘Life On Mars?‘ in the Eurythmics set. Go here for more.

New Release Date In The Uk For 'survive'

While we are on the subject of ‘Survive‘, it would seem that the release of this single has been put back a week in theUK to January 24th. This date also affects Denmark, Holland, Ireland, Norway and Sweden.

But, if you really must have the recording on the 17th, then a quick flight to Austria, Greece, Switzerland or Portugalshould secure you a copy, as the release date in those countries remains unchanged. Not sure about the Europeancountries I have not mentioned, (sorry Bianca and co) suffice it to say, it will be worth the wait!

Small consolation to those who can’t have the single on the 17th will be the posting on that day, finally, of mybehind-the-scenes report from the shooting of the video…(shouts of: “Well that definitely won’t be worth thewait!”)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mr BOWIE

It was 53 years ago this very day that a seconds old David Robert Jones first exercised the lungs that would make him a Globe-Straddling Rock God, and while that particular moment was not recorded for posterity, (as far as we know at least) the event was reported by CELEBRATION! magazine here in the UK.

We have reproduced the front of this priceless publication from the only copy known to survive, stumbled upon in a dusty old junk shop in South London by our super-sleuth Total Blam Blam. What do you mean it’s most likely a fake then?

Click on the above image for a link to a much larger version of this incredible piece of Rock ‘n’ Rollhistory. From there find the hidden hotspots for further links, to other areas of varying relevance.Check back over the next few days for added hotspots to new links.

I’m sure every single member of BowieNet will join us in wishing David a very special birthday and wewould like to take this opportunity to show our gratitude to the man for letting us share in his work overthe last 35 years. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID and much love from everybody at BowieNet.
