'survive' For New Film Soundtrack

“Those In The Know, Know”

In another move by film-makers that recognise the value of a Bowie track in the closing credits, (just look at thesuccess of ‘Seven‘ which used ‘The Heart’s Filthy Lesson‘ if you don’t believe me!) the album version of ‘Survive‘ is tobe used on the end credits of the film ‘Rancid Aluminium‘ which has a release date of January 21st here in the UK.Described as “A slick, edgy crime thriller” the film was directed by Ed Thomas based on the novel by James Hawes.

The film’s cast includes, among others, Joseph Fiennes (a guest at the Astoria after show), Rhys Ifans, TaraFitzgerald, Sadie Frost and star of ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels‘, Nick Moran. At the moment there is no planfor a soundtrack release to accompany the film.

Bowie On Kroq

‘I had to phone someone, so I picked on Rodney’

Should old acquaintance be forgot, DB phoned an old acquaintance, champion of all things Bowie, and host of LosAngeles radio station KROQ, Rodney Biggenheimer. The interview last Sunday night (Jan 2nd), was a fairly lengthy affair, in which David revealed some of his upcoming plans, none of which were particularly newsworthy to those of you who read these pages on a regular basis.

Among the projects discussed were his one European festival appearance this summer, the next studio album withTony Visconti and the fact that he intends to re-record an album of some of his sixties songs that he feels didn’tperhaps receive the treatment they deserved at the time. But then again you knew that!

Db On The O Zone Tomorrow In The Uk

The BBC have yet more Bowie TV on their airwaves tomorrow (Tuesday 4th January). David talks about his nextrelease ‘Survive‘ (released January 17th) on the jolly funky music show that is The O Zone. Tune into BBC2 at 7:10pm. SusanS and Steve K will be pleased to learn that The O Zone is broadcast in very sexy Nicam Digital Stereo!

While we are on the subject of the BBC, TOMORROW’S WORLD utilised a part of the excellent Jeremy Paxmaninterview in a programme entitled: ‘2000 And Beyond: A Tomorrow’s World Special‘. This edition of the popularscience show was shown on Wednesday 29th December and repeated the next day, by which time I presume the storywas old news. David touched on the impact of the new technologies and the internet in particular.

The Fine Art Of Separating People From Their Money

Product + Personality = Brand *

BBC2‘s Arena last night aired ‘The Fine Art Of Seperating People From Their Money‘, an intriguing guide to the worldof commercial creativity hosted by that most gentle of souls, the actor Dennis Hopper. Contributions came from thelikes of film directors Tony Scott, Spike Lee and Alan Parker, actor Anthony Quinn, musician Dave Stewart and theartist David Bowie. (That’s what it says here.)

As interesting as the programme was, the contributions from DB were taken from an interview from the last century.According to UK Bowie super-spotter John Harrison, the interview was first shown in it’s entirity on the GermanARTE channel for a programme called ‘Metropolis‘ in September 1995. Unless, of course, you know differently.
