Channel 4 Celebrates Bowie

Yesterday Channel 4 in the UK bookended their day with programmes celebrating the look of David Bowie. Big Breakfast kicked off early with a flip through new book BowieStyle. Wayne Hemmingway, the man-with-his-finger-on-the-irregular-pulse-of-fashion was the in-house expert who took us on that journey.

Jo Whiley ended the evening with a general chat about Bowie’s influence on her guests, who were Moby, Lene Nystrom of Aqua and Armend Van Helden. If you missed either of the shows click on the appropriate link above to view some screen shots and read some of the dialogue.

Paul Kinder realises his dream and time travels back to interview Ziggy…or does he? Click on Jo Whiley for more.

Adobe – Webcenter Feature

Adobe Web Center, a site by Adobe Systems Inc. (the company that makes the popular graphics program Photoshop), has a new feature on BowieNet! The article includes a quotation from BowieNet’s own Squeakie! Rock on! Here is a clip from this exclusive feature:

“Bowie is one of very few entrepreneurs willing to put money on the idea that the boundless creative energy pouring into new media will give rise to new arts. This makes it so successful in the eyes of its creator that Bowie recently relaunched the site’s next incarnation, BowieNet v2.”

King's Heroes

King Crimson, including Adrian Belew and Robert Fripp started their European tour yesterday in Copenhagen. Comprised mostly of songs from their upcoming album, the 1 1/2 hour show ended with a cover version of ‘Heroes‘, complete with Fripp’s trademark guitar licks as he laid them down on Bowie’s ‘Heroes‘ album over 22 years ago.

Perfect Day This…erm…evening

Just a reminder to UK members that the BBC Music Live event concludes this glorious Bank Holiday Monday. (A traditional UK holiday here in the UK in lieu of Whit Sunday, a day commemorating the day of Pentecost…it says here.) At 10pm (GMT) this evening Radio 2 will be supplying a Karaoke version of Lou Reed’s ‘Perfect Day’ so that we can all sing along and pretend to be David Bowie on the bits that he sang on the beautiful BBC version.

Don’t forget you can also donate that old Mellotron you have in your loft, (or any other abandoned instrument that is still in good working order) to INSTRUMENT AMNESTY up until close of play this evening. Go here for more: www.bbc.co.uk/musiclive.

Out On The Town

Wondering what David Bowie’s been doing for fun lately? Well, on Monday (May 15) night he was palling around with Page Hamilton, the ex-Helmet leader who’s been playing guitar with Bowie on and off for awhile now. The two took in the Wire, pan sonic, DJ Otefsu (the DJ moniker for Jim Thirwell of Foetus) show at Irving Plaza in New York. Bowie actually sat right next to Thirwell’s DJ rig in the balcony.
