Bowie gives needy young musician the horn…
‘Music Live‘, the BBC’s five-day celebration of live music, started in earnest in the UK yesterday. The event which runs from 25-29th May can be followed by going to www.bbc.co.uk/musiclive. More than 10,000 hours of live music and over 6,000 concerts are promised for a population of 59 million people. The whole thing culminates in a nation-wide live rendition of Lou Reed’s ‘Perfect Day’ on Bank Holiday Monday at 10pm (GMT), as previously reported on BowieNet. Radio 2 will be supplying the music so that we can all sing along in the comfort of our own homes, or like me you can really enter into the spirit by singing naked on your front lawn…perhaps.
David Bowie is among the many celebrities who have donated something toward the INSTRUMENT AMNESTY by pledging one of his own saxophones. INSTRUMENT AMNESTY is a collaboration between BBC Music Live and the National Foundation for Youth Music which aims to “give a young person a chance to fulfil their dream of making music.” Donations are being accepted up until the last day of the festival and again you can pledge by going to www.bbc.co.uk/musiclive. See you on the lawn!
