Good Choice

As you may or may not know, Napster.com was the winner of the ‘Webby Award’ for Music-related websites. The votes were obviously cast before the release of V.2!!

Sometimes called “the Oscars of the Internet,” the Webby awards are voted on by a panel of experts in electronic and traditional media, including filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening and rock singer David Bowie. The People’s Voice winners were selected by more than 134,000 Internet users.

Sex Pistols Soundtracks To Be Won

Click on the above image of the Sex Pistols’ ‘The Filth and the Fury‘ CD cover to take you to a competition to win the CD and posters from the film. While you are there check out the track-listing of this excellent double CD set. You may notice that apart from ‘The Jean Genie‘ there is a track called ‘Glass Of Champagne‘ credited to Sailor…hmmm

It would seem that some of you missed the mouse-overs on the pictures of Johnny Rotten in the Pistols’ piece in yesterday’s news. Go back and look again to see exactly what it was that may have prompted David Bowie to say in 1977: “When Ziggy fell from favour and lost all his money, he had a son before he died… Johnny Rotten”.

Oh and btw…the ‘Sailor’ mentioned above have nothing to do with the Sailor often found lurking in chat…even though the lead singer of the band did nick the idea of an anchor painted on his left cheek! (No Rednik…I mean the cheek on his face!)

"this Outstanding Site"

A speechless jelly…

The wonderfully cute Gail Porter, (who admits being reduced to a speechless jelly when she attempted to interview David Bowie at NetAid) graces the front of the current Radio Times’ Webwatch Magazine. Webwatch is a new guide “to the best of TV, film and radio online”, and it has this to say about www.davidbowie.com: “By far the most prominent rock star on the web is David Bowie, who admits to being more interested in the internet than he is in making promo videos for his own records. See what he’s capable of at this outstanding site.” And as if to drive the point home, they illustrate a pic from the ’87 Glass Spider Tour with the following caption: “David Bowie devotes more time to his website than his music videos”… Quite right too!

The Filth And The Fury

Taking its name from a tabloid headline following the infamous ‘Bill Grundy’ four-letter outburst by the Sex Pistols on peak-viewing ‘tea-time’ TV back in 1976, ‘The Filth and the Fury‘, is now showing nation-wide here in the UK. The film also sees the simultaneous release of a double CD soundtrack, which apart from a scorching selection of Pistols’ songs, includes numbers from the period that helped shape the overall identity of the band, among those songs is David Bowie’s ‘The Jean Genie‘. Go here for a closer look at the Bowie/Sex Pistols link.

Vh1 Launch 100 Fan Clubs

www.vh1.com have launched 100 fan clubs, and there is a comprehensive new page for db. You get the latest (well almost) news, TV listings, life story, influences, and tour information. There are also audio, video and images sections, as well as a message board, swap shop, and merchandise. The images look like screen grabs from ‘Storytellers’, and the videos are from programmes featured on VH1. You can also tell them about your favourite db sites.

It’s no Bowienet, but worth a look all the same.
