Mix “B” Wins Spot on ‘Bowie at the Beeb’!

The fans have spoken! During last night’s FanMix, votes for “Mix B” of The Man Who Sold the World (the fully orchestrated version) heavily outweighed those for “Mix A,” a more experimental and stripped down version of the 1971 classic. As it turns out, you all picked the same mix that David and Mark preferred themselves!

We’re still trying to figure out where David gets his energy from – he was certainly in high gear during last night’s FanMix, which was hailed as a “groundbreaking event.” In addition to letting the fans vote on two different versions of The Man Who Sold the World, David sang, danced, announced that the Queen of England would be BowieNet’s next chat guest and gave away autographed bathtub accessories (little rubber boats)! Various polls and even a “Name That Tune” segment yielded other prizes including autographed photos and copies of the “Buddha of Suburbia” CD. Together with Mark Plati and BowieNet host “Saint Alphonzo”, David answered questions about everything from album specific questions to possible names for the baby (“Archibald”) to his most recent haircut.

Look for small video crummies of the event later this week followed by a complete posting of the webcast in its entirety by Monday!fanmix_3.jpg” width=288 height=188 alt=”” border=”0″>

DAVID BOWIE has offered to let fans choose a track on his forthcoming album.

Bowie releases ‘Bowie At The Beeb 1968-1972’ in the autumn, a three-CD compilation of his BBC sessions from that period. In a webcast at 8pm EST today (July 31) via the official David Bowie website, www.davidbowie.com, fans will be streamed a number of different mixes of the same song, and they will get a chance to vote on their favourite, which will appear on the final version of the album.

Also, fans will get the chance to chat and win prizes, as well as seeing live video streams from the studio in which Bowie is working.

In a special twist, Bowie — who was named online pioneer of the year at the Yahoo! Internet Life Online Music Awards on Monday — will give fans the opportunity to choose from several versions of a live track that will appear on the album. On Monday (July 31), the artist and producer Mark Plati will interact with fans in a live Web cast direct from Bowie’s recording studio.

The limited edition third CD spans Bowie’s career, sporting rarely performed numbers like “This Is Not America” and “Wild Is the Wind,” along with “Ashes to Ashes” and “Let’s Dance.”

Ever the Internet trailblazer, Bowie will give fans a chance a chance to select their favorite version of a live track to appear on the album this Monday (July 31) by logging onto BowieNet (davidbowie.com) for the real-time event broadcast from Bowie’s recording studio.
