The Return Of Placebo!!

Exclusive Interview for BowieNet Members!!

Remember Placebo? Their relationship with David goes back to 1996, before they were famous. David was given a demo by Virgin records, loved their work, nagged at them to put out ‘Nancy Boy’, invited them to tour with him on the Outside and Earthling tours, performed ’20th Century Boy’ with them at the 1999 Brit Awards, guested on their single ‘Without You I’m Nothing’ in 1999, and also performed on stage with them in New York in the same year.

On the eve of the release of their third album, BLACK MARKET MUSIC, Placebo have agreed to an exclusive interview for Bowienet! Members can submit questions, and we will choose the best ones for the interview, which will take place at the end of September.

The band last chatted with Bowienet members in March 1999, just before David joined them onstage in New York.

Songs That Have 'helped' Oasis

What can I do for you? Looks like you’ve been there too…

In the current issue of NME, self-confessed Bowie fan, Noel from Oasis, talks us through ten songs “…that changed his life and gave Oasis their chords.” We all remember the rather pedestrian version of ‘Heroes’ that the band treated us to some time back, but it seems this wasn’t the only Bowie song that Noel has ‘enjoyed’. Followers of Oasis and lovers of the popular parlour game ‘Spot That Tune’, will not be surprised to learn that a David Bowie composition was among the songs that have ‘inspired’ Noel.

No.9 Rebel Rebel – David Bowie

“….I’d imagine that if you were a 13 or 14-year-old girl in the early ’70s, this record would have been pretty much a life-changing experience. It contains one of the best riffs. This was a sound that I was pretty obsessed with for a long time.”

In Part Two, Noel will discuss how ‘All The Young Dudes’ also helped him through a few artistic blocks…allegedly! };-)

Liner Notes From Bowie At The Beeb!

That’s right, and they’re all right here! We’re thrilled to be able to share these with you – in the words of Bernie Andrews and Jeff Griffin:

To be in at the beginning of the early career of someone who has lasted as long as David Bowie, the pleasure is doubled. Here’s to a dose of double pleasure for you too.

Amen! Click here to read it all!

Win Rare Beeb Sampler Now

For your chance to win not only one of ten copies of the beauty pictured above, but also one of ten even rarer CDRs of the third limited CD from the BEEB set, all you have to do is answer the question below and send your answer to MrTotalBlamBlam@aol.com with a subject heading of ‘Kooks’.

Here we go…In June of 1971 David Bowie and friends performed a set for John Peel’s In Concert programme. Among the songs performed was the recently written ‘Kooks’, of which a rather nervous David had this to say:

“I’d been listening to a Neil Young album, and they phoned through and said that my wife had a had a baby on Sunday morning. I wrote this about the baby. It’s called Kooks…K, double o, k, s…I’m not too sure of the words, ‘cos it is new…so I’ll have a go at it.”

David’s uncertainty of the words is where you come in. This early version of ‘Kooks’ had an extra line that never appeared on the Hunky Dory recording. What I want to know from you is, what was that line?…A small clue is that it followed the line: “And if the homework brings you down, then we’ll throw it on the fire and take the car down town.”

First ten correct answers win. Good luck!

T J Newton Falls To Bbc2 This Saturday

It’s a crash course for the ravers…

The Man Who Fell To Earth is being shown in widescreen format this Saturday (September 2nd) on BBC2 here in the UK. To celebrate the event The Radio Times have made David Bowie the subject of their regular ‘Teach Yourself’ feature in the new edition of the popular listings magazine. Click on the image above to see what crucial facts made their final list, not all of them wholly accurate of course. No doubt I won’t be able to resist watching it for the 387th time, but seeing as the film continues into the early hours of Sunday the 3rd, what nicer way could I spend the first hours of my 40th birthday. No that isn’t a hint…it’s a blatant plug! };-)

David Bowie Is No Dummy!

…but Saint Alphonzo certainly can be!

Hi, it’s Saint Alphonzo here. What follows is a repost of yesterday’s segment by Blammo – only this time in its entirety! Sorry about botching your post, Blam! I’m only, hu…er….saintly?!?   =8-)

While we are on the subject of Sunday publications, British ‘Newspaper of the Year’, The Sunday Telegraph (August 13th), had on its Arts pages, a feature headed ‘Is it time for gottles of geer?’. As the more astute among you will have guessed, the article was about ventriloquists, with particular reference to their annual conference in Northern Kentucky. Having a passing interest in the art (mainly due to my fascination for the spooky dolls), I scanned through the eight pictures of vents and their puppets and was astonished to see a crazy-haired girl sporting an Aladdin Sane t-shirt with her hand up a full Earthling mode David Bowie puppet. And who exactly was that girl, you’re probably not wondering? Go here to confirm your suspicions.
