Bowie asks for fans’ help in making album

LONDON — David Bowie, fresh from his designation as a pioneer in online music, has invited fans into his studio to help select a track for his next album.

According to the artist’s Web site, members of his cyber fan club on Monday may watch — and listen to — Bowie and producer Mark Plati remix an undisclosed song. Then they can vote online to decide which version of the track will appear on the album.

The track will be released on Bowie’s upcoming live box set, a three-CD compilation. Titled “Bowie at the Beeb 1968-1972” the collection is culled from Bowie’s performances at the BBC, including a special appearance last year during which he revisited such favorites as “The Man Who Sold the World,” “Absolute Beginners” and “Let’s Dance.”

Yahoo! recently declared Bowie an Internet Life Music Pioneer.
