Brian Eno Produces U2 Album; Single Released

U2 have been hard at work in the recording studio for the past year preparing for the October release of their new album All That You Can’t Leave Behind. Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois have produced the album, helping sculpt U2’s sound to a purportedly more stripped-down rock feel. Brian, who appears on some 14 of Bowie’s albums, has worked with U2 since their third album, The Unforgettable Fire. Preview the album’s first single, Beautiful Day by clicking the link below from Interscope Records.

Happy Labor Day!

That’s right, here in the states, it’s Labor Day, so hats off to workers around the world! In case you’re one of the many who’s not sure exactly what this holiday is about, good ‘ol Mr. Gompers (aka Uncle Sam?) has provided us with a little synopsis: 😉 “Labor Day differs in every essential from the other holidays of the year in any country,” said Samuel Gompers, founder and longtime president of the American Federation of Labor. “All other holidays are in a more or less degree connected with conflicts and battles of man’s prowess over man, of strife and discord for greed and power, of glories achieved by one nation over another. Labor Day…is devoted to no man, living or dead, to no sect, race, or nation.” Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country. Chances are this is more than enough, but if you’re still curious, by all means – read on!

Grandaddy At Reading Festival

Dave’s latest rave, GRANDADDY, got a great review from NME for their set at Reading Festival. It reads:

“With perfect timing, Grandaddy begin ‘Summer Here Kids’ just as the wind starts to blow in from the Urals. Still, its pure jubilation, today’s first glimpse of true songwriting magic glinting from behind their beards. Lovely flushes of colour, sudden keyboard growth spurts – the sounds might have clouded over but ‘Hewlett’s Daughter’, ‘Crystal Lake’ and a magnificent ‘AM 180’ shine as bright as ever. Relaxxx.”

Dotmusic.com has another review of the performance, and obviously they agree. Click here here to check it out!
