Ground Control To Davy Jones

Rolling Stone have a special feature on Cameron Crowe, who once worked for them as a teen reporter (as dramatized in his recent film, Almost Famous). There is a selection (Crowe’s Greatest Hits) of his best articles from that period, including one from 1976 about David. Cameron spent several days with David, for most of which period David was wide awake, very active, prolific, and bored! It touches on recording with Iggy, The Man Who Fell To Earth, Liz Taylor, drinking champagne with Ron Wood and Young Americans.

More 'mysterman' Crummies!

As promised, here is another Stylophone crummie from David’s latest TRIP to/in the studio. In case you missed it, David’s journal entry dated October 11th talks about the current project and how this timeless device made it back into his acoustic arsenal. Click here to access the journal page, the entry in question being journal number 2 (see the BRILLIANT ADVENTURE bit below for MORE about journal number 1).

For more about the reknowned contraption, click here or on the image above to read some HI-larious press clippings from 1968!

And last, but certainly not least, click here to discover how thoroughly David explores the instruction manual before attempting to use this potentially lethal device!

More to come!

Beeb In Rolling Stone

This month’s Rolling Stone includes an ad for Bowie at the Beeb. Here’s a snapshot of the full page ad, compliments of Blakely. Click on the picture above for a larger image.

Thanks, Blakely!

Uncommonly Rare Bowie At The Beeb T-shirts To Be Won

Layer 2

(Just give me back the shirt Gae…It isn’t yours to keep.)

To promote the recent Bowie at the Beeb release, EMI produced a very limited run of T-shirts that were distributed to industry folk, DJs and the like. Needless to say, these items are exchanging hands for silly money on the black T-shirt market, but we have managed to procure ten of these beauties for as many lucky BowieNetters. The shirts have the Bowie at the Beeb logo printed on the reverse, and the Guy Peellaert painting that was commisioned for the release is reproduced on the front.

The picture above is of Mrs Blam Blam sporting one of these priceless prizes, as it looked just a bit too tight on me };-) As you can see the shirt is black cotton and very sexy to boot. Click on the image on the T-shirt for a close up reminder of exactly how good the Guy Peellaert painting is.

For your chance to win one of the shirts, simply tell me the name of the old friend of David’s that appeared next to him in Guy Peellaert’s book ‘Rock Dreams’ in 1973. When you think you know the name of David’s companion in the painting mail your answer to: MrTotalBlamBlam@AOL.com with “Who dat with Bowie?” in the subject line. Please state whether you would prefer a small or a large T-shirt, remembering that the small are miniscule and the large are not very big at all!

As with all of the competitions that I post from now on, your answer must be sent from a davidbowie.com or a davidbowie.co.uk e-mail address. This competition will close at the end of the month to give everybody plenty of time to find the answer, as it’s not an easy one, unless you have access to the book. Good Luck!

Crummies Of Lily!

Have you seen David’s new journal entry? Probably not, because it just went up today. Before you play this priceless crummie, you should read David’s new journal for the skinny. Viewing this crummie without proper preparation could be hazardous to your health.

Click here to read the journal first and proceed in an orderly fashion.

Click here to embrace chaos and view the crummie first (proceed at your own risk).

More to come tomorrow!

Gq Cool

After being chosen as this year’s Most Stylish Man last month, Bowie is lending his writing talents to the foreword of a new book titled GQ Cool. Slated for release later this month in the UK, the book promises “a collection of portraits defining the essence of male cool over the least decade”. As well as Bowie, other UK male celebs such as David Beckham, Noel and Liam Gallagher and Alan Rickman are among those deemed cool enough to feature in the book written by Jo Levin.

The Complete David Bowie…not Quite

Sonic Net has hopped on to the bandwagon of peeking into David’s journals, or at least writing about someone else’s peeking. They write:

Rock icon David Bowie told fans in his online community, BowieNet, that he is wrapping up a new, ’60s-style album. “It’s heads down again this month,” he wrote. “By the first week in November, I should have finished the ’60s album. At the moment it’s called Toy.” Bowie, who has accepted a small part in Ben Stiller’s upcoming film “Zoolander,” just released a three-disc live album, Bowie at the Beeb: 1968-1972. …

Oh God, I Could Do Better Than That!

The Style section in this Sunday’s London Times has a feature this week on all the fun backstage at London’s Fashion Week. They show a photograph of Philip Treacy (milliner to the Stars) wearing one of his own creations. The angle of the story is lookalikes and inspirations. They have this to say about Treacy’s hat:

“…is Philip Treacy….morphing into David Bowie? He wishes…..”
