The Complete David Bowie…not Quite

Yet another Bowie book nestles among the Bs in the music section of your local book shop this month. ‘The Complete David Bowie’ by Nicholas Pegg is a brave effort that claims to be “The ultimate reference: albums, singles, concerts, films, the internet and more.” This really is the antithesis of a book like ‘BowieStyle’, in that apart from the covers, the book is a picture-less 450 pages. But that is because it is what it claims to be…a reference.

Of course the problem with a reference like this is that if one is not returning to the source (i.e., David Bowie), it is almost impossible to produce a work that is 100% accurate. Having said that, Nicholas has done a pretty admirable job of collecting all the information that is already out there, be it true or false, and he has collected it into one easy to use tome that, until we are blessed with some sort of official book, I am sure will become an indispensable guide to most all serious collectors of David Bowie’s music.

Happy Columbus Day!

By the way, Happy Columbus Day to those of you in the states (or to those of you looking for an extra reason to celebrate something)! It is interesting to note that various movements of political correctness in recent years have put the holiday under a bit of scrutiny, essentially by saying the bloke was a bit of a scoundrel.

If you’re interested, here’s a couple of links to persuasive arguments for both sides:

Let’s pour ourselves a pint and discuss it, shall we?

Beeb Sails Up Online Charts

Internet sales of Bowie at the Beeb are sailing in the U.S., (no pun intended) with Billboard reporting its entry into the top ten this week. While Beeb sales in the U.S. through the Internet are high, retail sales are much lower, with Beeb coming in at number 181. This is not the case in the UK of course, with Beeb debuting in the top ten retail.

Toy At Music 365!

David’s journal entry about the new album has made its way into the news at Music 365!

“The 60’s album? What could he possibly mean?” they ask, and… “following his Glastonbury triumph, is it time for Bowie to come up with a classic record?”

We know some thing they don’t know….LOL!
