How long, I wondered, could this thing last?
For those of you that never actually got around to purchasing the ‘Red Hot & Rhapsody’ charity album for the Bowie track it contains, and that suffer a twang of guilt every time they listen to their Napster download version (that robs the charity of its royalties), salvation is at hand in the form of a free download.
The album, a collection of covers of George Gershwin songs, was released in the ‘Red Hot’ series aimed at raising money for AIDS-related charities, and it contains the evocative and quite beautiful treatment of ‘A Foggy Day (in London Town)’ that was recorded by David and Angelo Badalamenti in 1998. Amazon have made the track available in its full 5:24 minute glory, and while the download is free, there is a facility to make an online donation of a dollar or more. If you have not heard the track yet, I suggest you whiz over to Amazon now and treat yourself to one of Bowie’s all-time best vocal performances. You lucky people you!
