Bowienet Introduces Community Advocates (aka The 'helping Hands')

Tell them I’ve got a dream…

As Saint Alphonzo posted on the boards today, we are happy to announce that we are going to begin using Community Advocates. A Community Advocate – or Helping Hand – is a BowieNetter who volunteers to take on a specific role in the community, whether it’s helping out with new members’ questions on the message boards, assisting us in the Gallery, gathering news, noting calendar events, etc.

So far we have two Helping Hands, Christine.Schmidt and Frida! They have volunteered to lend a hand, specifically with the Rants & Feedback & Naggers Top Ten Boards, not just in answering whatever questions they can, but also in ensuring that everyone’s questions get answered! Thanks, Christine & Frida!

This is also a good time to introduce you to Maggie (actually NaggyMaggie) – NaggyMaggie is not a “CA,” she is an UltraStar employee who will be answering general customer service questions on the “Rants and Feedback” message boards. When it rains, it pours! We just want to make sure that all of your questions get answered.

Also, there are a few more Helping Hands positions available. If you are interested in volunteering, just send an e-mail to Saint Alphonzo indicating which CA position you’re applying for and include a brief note about why yu’d like to help. The positions we still have open are:

1) Gallery Guru – browse through the Gallery for blank postings, duplicate postings, oversized images, etc. Help determine weekly featured selections.

2) Calendar Cat (Europe) – keep eyes peeled for any upcoming Bowie events in Europe, whether it’s on TV, radio, theatre, local entertainment, online, etc.

3) Calendar Cat (U.S.) – same, but for U.S.

4) News Nanny – You’d be hard pressed to find some Bowie related news that we haven’t already got our hands on between Total Blam Blam, Spaceface and our other “inside” sources, but – just in case – we want one person to look out for anything we might have missed!

The down side of these positions is that once you agree to become a CA, you will not be eligible to compete in any of the various BowieNet competitions such as the Points Competition, Monthly Lyric Puzzle, etc. etc. I’m sure we can make it up to you, but that’s something you may want to consider if you want to volunteer.

Beautiful Feet For A New Mom

Tap my pretty little feet

Just in case you haven’t visited for a while, Iman has a new diary entry over at I-Iman.com.

As well as the inside story on The Sephora Beauty Fashion Show (Our models strutted down the runway in all their I-IMAN Makeup fierceness and the show was a great success!!), we are also treated to a lovely snippet “new mama, Moroccan style.”

“In Morocco, as a custom of celebration, new mothers are pampered and treated to the ritual of having their hands and feet painted with elaborate henna designs.”

Check out the whole story at I-Iman.com.

Thanks, Spaceface!

Ned Ambler Completes Film

Ned Ambler, art artist included in the recent exhibit we told you about at The Rupert Goldsworthy Gallery, has just wrapped on his third feature film. ‘Knackered’ (115 minutes) was filmed on DV by hotshot MTV cinematographer Ron Egozi and stars Jonny Cragg of the band Space Hog, and Howard Stern alumni transsexual Danna Bradley. David is fond of his work and reportedly purchased one of his pieces at the recent exhibit.

Bowie Charity Recording In Free Download

How long, I wondered, could this thing last?

For those of you that never actually got around to purchasing the ‘Red Hot & Rhapsody’ charity album for the Bowie track it contains, and that suffer a twang of guilt every time they listen to their Napster download version (that robs the charity of its royalties), salvation is at hand in the form of a free download.

The album, a collection of covers of George Gershwin songs, was released in the ‘Red Hot’ series aimed at raising money for AIDS-related charities, and it contains the evocative and quite beautiful treatment of ‘A Foggy Day (in London Town)’ that was recorded by David and Angelo Badalamenti in 1998. Click on the image above to see a photograph of the pair together at the recording in New York.

Amazon have made the track available in its full 5:24 minute glory, and while the download is free, there is a facility to make an online donation of a dollar or more. If you have not heard the track yet, I suggest you whiz over to Amazon now and treat yourself to one of Bowie’s all-time best vocal performances. You lucky people you!
