Eight years ago, on 29th April 1993 , Mick Ronson left us to play lead for another great band. As Def Leppard’s Joe Elliot said, “If there’s a God up there, why does he do this? It can only be because he’s trying to put together the ultimate band”.
I have often searched in vain for a good website about Mick, until I saw a new URL on the various Bowie message boards. Mick Ronson – Only After Dark, is a website which shines with love and care. Among many pages, there is a lengthy biography, some beautiful and beautifully presented images, and a page of glowing tributes from many of his colleagues, including David. One – Bobby Chen, drummer for the Mick Ronson Band, was moved to write in the guestbook :-
“Great web site! The best Ronno site on the Net by a long way. I was glued to each page. Mick WAS a great & kind person. We had many fun time’s playing together. I miss him every day. You’ve done a very special job remembering Mick to the world….”
David had this to say about Mick, in March 2000, in his BBC Radio 2 : “Golden Years – The David Bowie Story” interview ( 03/18/00 NEWS: REMINDER : RADIO 2) .“From the moment he switched his amp on, it was all over. I thought this is my Jeff Beck. This guy is REALLY hot, this is a GREAT guitar player.”
Go, check out this lovely tribute, built by Bowienetter “camy”, and remember …..
