The Meltdown Festival Begins

The Meltdown festival got off to a very stylish start to a full house last night with the first performance in London in five years of Philip Glass’ ‘Low’ and ‘Heroes’ symphonies. Performed by the brilliant London Sinfonietta and conducted by Marin Alsop, It really is a great way to hear these pieces from the music of David Bowie and Brian Eno. The sound was breathtakingly beautiful in what is one of the very best venues to hear this kind of music. I’m sure you know that the RFH was built for orchestral performances in the first place.

There is nothing scheduled on the South Bank for Meltdown tonight (though the incredible Arthur Lee is playing the Queen Elizabeth Hall), the programme continues with one of the more interesting events of the festival tomorrow night, Daniel Johnston and The Legendary Stardust Cowboy at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. See you there for what promises to be a night of absolute craziness!
