Clutches of sad remains, Waits for Aladdin Sane…
Occasional visitors to these shores could be forgiven for thinking the English are harbouring a bizarre cult for forty-plus-year-old men who like to dress as David Bowie’s seventies alter ego Aladdin Sane. Over the last couple of years we’ve had many Englishmen, all of whom should know better, appear on our TV screens as the God of Glam, including; Jonathan Ross (Late Night With Jonathan Ross), Les Battersby (Coronation Street), Ricky Gervais (Golden Years), Roland Rivron (Raw Sex) and of course Boy George’s winning performance just last week on Stars In Their Eyes Celebrity Christmas Special.
Though not the first televisual appearance as the God of Glam for Jonathan Ross, tomorrow night on BBC1 sees JR return to the character for a 1970s special of the sporting trivia programme,

was… he’s forgotten his, and frankly it all looks a little untidy!
As you can see, in common with most of the Mr Sane Cult members, and despite the comparative accuracy of the Aladdin Sane lightning bolt, Jonathan hasn’t really bothered going for the sort of outfit that Ziggy would have been seen dead in. He has instead opted for a cross between a Flash Gordon Bacofoil affair and a WWF cast-off! Oh well, it’s all just for fun.
You can witness the spectacle for yourself on They Think It’s All Over, tomorrow night (Friday) at 21:30 UK time. The show is repeated Saturday night/Sunday morning at 2:20am on BBC1.
