Tibet Tickets 2nd Charity Auction Is Live

To the seat with the clearest view…

The second of five auctions for five separate pairs of VIP tickets to the Tibet House Benefit Concert in New York City is now live on ebaY. We told you all about this auction last week when the first pair of tickets went live (12/27/02 NEWS: TIBET HOUSE VIP TICKETS CHARITY AUCTION IS LIVE), and we’re very pleased to be able to announce that that first pair went for US $760.00! This amount still seems very reasonable when one considers what the auction package includes:

Two adjacent tickets within rows A-101 thru A-110
Access to an exclusive buffet dinner the night of the show for both ticket holders

One pair of tickets will be auctioned per week, for five consecutive weeks. All proceeds from these auctions will benefit the Tibet House. You can reach the auction by clicking on the image above. Good night, and good luck. };-)

Bowienet 2002 News Archive Is Live

Do you remember, the bills you have to pay, Or even yesterday?

With just three days of 2003 gone forever, I wonder how many of us have already forgotten much of what just happened in the last 368 days? Personally, I try not to fill my mental hard drive with too many memories, when I know I have easy access to the recent BowieNet past via Susans’ quite excellent BowieNet News Archive.

Not only is the whole of 2002 ready for viewing with the completion of December’s archive, but young S has added a new section that highlights DB and related product that became available in 2002, which you can reach by clicking on the screen grab above.

I look forward to the fruits of Susans’ current labour, the archive for the year 2000. Who knows, we may even persuade her to venture back into 1999 one day! Thanx a lot Susans, your work is appreciated more than you could possibly imagine.

The Cult Of Aladdin Sane? The Plot Thickens

JR makes an arse of himself on the BBC tonight.

Like an evening at the circus…

The pictures we posted of Jonathan Ross as Aladdin Sane yesterday have appeared in some of this morning’s press here in the UK. Both The Sun and The Daily Star have carried reports about tonight’s They Think It’s All Over, which airs at 21:30 UK time on BBC1.

But, another strikingly similar broadcast that almost escaped my attention is yet another sporting trivia programme, broadcast tonight at 19:00 UK time (two and a half hours before They Think It’s All Over) and also showing on BBC1. The programme in question is a music-themed special edition of the long-running sports quiz, A Question Of Sport. The bizarre parallels with yesterday’s news item don’t end there.

However, due to an embargo, which I dare not break, I can’t give you any more information than that, suffice to say, be sure to tune in for a completely incredible coincidence! };-)

This Evening's Mystery Aladdin Sane Revealed

Mark Radcliffe enters the Aladdin Sane gallery of rogues via
his appearance in a spoof of the Perfect Day BBC promo film.

I thought I was someone else, Someone good…

Well, perhaps I was being a little theatrical when I described Mark Radcliffe’s Aladdin Sane cameo as a “completely incredible coincidence” in the story below earlier today, but you have to admit, two new Cult members on one evening’s viewing is pretty impressive!

I told you about Jonathan Ross’s appearance on They Think It’s All Over, but a strict reporting embargo forbade me from mentioning Mr Radcliffe’s contribution to a spoof of the BBC Perfect Day video.

In a music-themed special edition of the sports quiz, A Question Of Sport, team captain Ally McCoist was completely thrown as to the identities of the two clowns camping it up in a hilarious re-enactment of the BBC’s classic all-star promotional film of the Lou Reed hit.

“Oh! What a perfect day…” Lard as Lou on A Question Of Sport this evening.

All the more embarrassing for McCoist was the fact that he had spent the earlier part of the day before the taping of A Question Of Sport with Mark and Lard themselves…but still failed to recognise them!

I guess this can only be seen as a back-handed compliment to the nation’s best loved Radio1 DJs, in that their transformations were so complete, it was almost impossible to tell them from the originals. No? Well perhaps not, but apart from Mark Radcliffe’s Bowie (top), who could resist Mark Lard Riley as a kind of Scouser Lou Reed (above)?

And if our picture below of Lard as the soprano opera singer Lesley Garrett doesn’t melt your heart, then you must be a very cold sort indeed.

“And then later, When it gets dark.” Mark Riley as Lesley Garrett.
Or was that Lesley as Mark Riley? …It’s so confusing these days.

Jr In Latest Aladdin Sane Tribute

JR does DB again, it’s all done in the best possible taste.

Clutches of sad remains, Waits for Aladdin Sane…

Occasional visitors to these shores could be forgiven for thinking the English are harbouring a bizarre cult for forty-plus-year-old men who like to dress as David Bowie’s seventies alter ego Aladdin Sane. Over the last couple of years we’ve had many Englishmen, all of whom should know better, appear on our TV screens as the God of Glam, including; Jonathan Ross (Late Night With Jonathan Ross), Les Battersby (Coronation Street), Ricky Gervais (Golden Years), Roland Rivron (Raw Sex) and of course Boy George’s winning performance just last week on Stars In Their Eyes Celebrity Christmas Special.

Though not the first televisual appearance as the God of Glam for Jonathan Ross, tomorrow night on BBC1 sees JR return to the character for a 1970s special of the sporting trivia programme, They Think It’s All Over. Jonathan’s latest attempt is not a pretty sight, and those of you that can barely stomach the image above are warned to scroll no further.

Jonathan Ross proves just how important that pink jock strap
was… he’s forgotten his, and frankly it all looks a little untidy!

As you can see, in common with most of the Mr Sane Cult members, and despite the comparative accuracy of the Aladdin Sane lightning bolt, Jonathan hasn’t really bothered going for the sort of outfit that Ziggy would have been seen dead in. He has instead opted for a cross between a Flash Gordon Bacofoil affair and a WWF cast-off! Oh well, it’s all just for fun.

You can witness the spectacle for yourself on They Think It’s All Over, tomorrow night (Friday) at 21:30 UK time. The show is repeated Saturday night/Sunday morning at 2:20am on BBC1.

There is alarming, but compelling evidence that the cult is slowly spreading around the world, to encompass all walks of society, as highlighted in the stories below. Now, where did I put my Schwarzkopf red hair dye?

Happy New Year To All, Plus Db's Stars For 2003

And tomorrows of rich surprise…

Firstly from David and all of us here at BowieNet, we’d like to wish you all a very happy new year and the sort of 2003 you are hoping for. We already know about some of the exciting plans that David has in store for us over the next twelve months, but does the information gleaned from his horoscope offer anything new?

Many thanx to BowieNetter Roy Sutton who pointed me in the direction of the January 2003 issue of Horoscope magazine. This edition understandably focuses on Capricorns…specifically on David Bowie, to whom the magazine has given over the front cover and a rather wordy 3-page in-depth analysis inside.

I have to say I don’t normally subscribe to this kind of thing, and I would imagine it really can’t be that hard to make something of substance for a piece like this. Particularly when one has a life that has been so publicly documented at one’s disposal. But, despite my misgivings, here are a few excerpts from the feature (which was written by Helen Adams) just for fun anyway… My occasional silly comments are in italics.

David is a Capricorn, with his Sun conjunct Mars in the twelfth house. He also has Mercury in Capricorn in the eleventh. (Who didn’t already know that?)

His Capricorn nature is revealed in the bone structure of his face, and a lot of Capricorn’s are gifted with this enviable attribute. (I’m a moon-faced Virgo!)

The Sun in the twelfth brings with it all kinds of gifts and talents, but also kinds of dangers such as being caught up in a world of fantasy, from which it can be difficult at times to distinguish one order of reality from another. (Hallo Ziggy)

David’s chart…I’m sure it makes sense to somebody out there.

In 1990 David met Somalian-born model Iman whilst having dinner at a friend’s house. A quick look at the aspects between their charts reveals that Iman’s Sun conjuncts David’s Moon in Leo, which is a great symbol of togetherness. Her fiery and enthusiastic Mars/Jupiter conjunction conjunct David’s Saturn/Pluto conjunction bringing him lightness and laughter in an area of his life where he has often experienced difficulty and pain.

She may also be able to help him be quite philosophical about his issues and problems. Her Mercury/Venus conjunction in Cancer opposes his Sun/Mars conjunction in Capricorn, and this helps to form a bond of communication, fascination and deep attraction between them. There is certainly some real chemistry between them.

(Awwrrrrr…)

In August 2000 Alexandria was born and David was changing his spots once more. ‘I think the last ten years have slowly become the most rewarding period of my life,’ he says. ‘I like where I’m at and I’m very comfortable. I like being who I am, who I’m with and what I’m doing. I seem to have found an equilibrium in my life.’

David is no stranger to intensity having both Pluto and Saturn conjunct his Descendant, and would actually find it hard to be around someone superficial for too long. It seems that 2003 could be a year in which he has one encounter which is particularly powerful and which could change his life quite significantly. Perhaps it will change his ideas about his creativity and the direction of his work.

Neptune in opposition to Pluto can bring about the possibility of in-depth spiritual experiences that have a profound effect on our lives. In David’s case it may be that it changes his idea of who he is in relationship to others and to the world at large. As Neptune tends to erode away the ego, he may find himself involved in experiences that are encouraging him to function more from the level of his higher self than his personality. Another aspect of this combination of energies is that important objects or people can simply disappear from one’s life, which means adjusting to the truth that nothing is permanent.

There’s a hell of a lot more where that came from, so whether you think there’s something in it or you feel it’s a pile of hogwash, you can read the whole thing in the January issue of Horoscope. Now, where are those tea leaves? };-)

PS – Sorry for the lateness of this posting, but my own more earthly new year celebrations were a little heavier than I had originally planned!
