David And Iman Attend Goddess Gala In New York

“Let your hair hang down…” David and Iman at the Goddess Gala
in New York City on Monday evening. Pic courtesy WireImage.com.

Didn’t they teach you to get your hair cut at school?

Mr and Mrs Jones were but two of the names on a pretty impressive guestlist at the Costume Institute’s Spring 2003 Exhibition and Gala, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday evening. The theme of the gala was Goddess, and the couple rose to the occasion with their usual style and aplomb.

However, when I asked David, (no stranger to hair controversy) about the interesting new Barnet that he’s sporting in the picture above, he had this to say about his very latest style:

‘Hairdresser had an appointment so could only do the back. Hoping to have front finished on Monday next.’

Other guests at the ‘Party of the Year’ included Robert DeNiro, Nicole Kidman, Angie Harmon, Eve, Alicia Keys, Heidi Klum, Giselle Bundchen, Naomi Campbell, Victoria Beckham, Linda Evangelista, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, but I have nothing particularly interesting to report about their hair, apart from the fact that Robert DeNiro is now wearing rather a lot of it on his chin.

Bowiephiles

She’s hangin’ on his arms like a cheap (boiler) suit…

Coming up soon, and very well worth checking out for those of you in the UK, is the Contemporary Wardrobe Collection Sale of the 21st Century at The Horse Hospital ? Colonnade ? Bloomsbury ? London WC1N 1HX (Located just 1 minute from Russell Square tube, on the Piccadilly line). The event takes place on Saturday May 10th and Sunday May 11th. On display, among many other items of clothing with a pop-culture background, will be the day-glo orange boiler suit which David wore in the Blue Jean video.

Enquiries reveal the boiler suit is only part of a collection of several Bowie items and that:

We may consider realistic offers on the boiler suit, which may cause a stir on Bowienet!

You can contact James at popculture@thehorsehospital.com, and also by telephone on 020 7713 7370.

It happens outside, the music is outside…

Those of you in the USA, who can be in Seattle between May 8th and 11th, may like to consider checking out Bowie: Inside/Outside ‘an evening of live dance and music inspired by David Bowie and his work.’

Seattle choreographers Pat Graney, KT Niehoff, Pablo Cornejo, Peggy Piacenza, Crispin Spaeth, Amii LeGendre, Maureen Whiting and Wade Madsen will share the stage, presenting dance pieces that celebrate this enigmatic and mercurial icon of art.

Enjoy!

Bowienet/ebay Auction Of More Mick Rock/mtr Goodies

The Jean Genie… let yourself go!

Two more Mick Rock items from the MTR Bowie exhibition are up for grabs. They’re both connected and relate to the 1972 video shoot for The Jean Genie. You can reach each auction by clicking on the relevant image below.

——————————————————————————————————————————

Mick Rock’s shot of Ziggy and The Spiders performing The Jean
Genie in San Francisco, October 1972. Approx. 23″ X 17″ in the frame.

The first item is this wonderful black and white print from a photograph taken by Mick Rock at the video shoot for The Jean Genie. Mick Rock filmed and directed David Bowie’s promotional video The Jean Genie in San Francisco in late October 1972, around the time of the Winterland Auditorium concert.

Shot in a single day, the video was one of the very first made specifically for music TV shows such as TOTPs… even if they couldn’t quite grasp this revolutionary concept.

The ground-breaking video starred the late Cyrinda Foxe, (a good friend of David’s at the time) who lent him various items of her clothing during his short Ziggy Stardust tour of the US.

The video is also memorable for the studio footage of David performing with The Spiders (see above) and shots of Ziggy outside the seemingly appropriate Mars Hotel.

——————————————————————————————————————————

Print of Mick Rock’s original storyboard for the above The Jean
Genie video shoot. Print is approx. 17.5″ X 13.5″ in the frame.

The second item is a print of one of Mick’s original storyboards for this historic video. The storyboard has a few of the ideas used in the video such as: “Cyrinda – Jeans – Doing her Marylin bit” and “CUs (Close Ups) of David – Eyes – Lips – Hair – Hands”. Both these professionally framed prints were on display during the MTR Bowie exhibition last year.

Dutch War Child Cd Tracklisting

Children round the world…

Well we did promise the tracklisting for Hoop, the Dutch version of the War Child CD as soon as we had it, (04/19/03 NEWS: FINAL TRACKLISTING FOR BOTH WAR CHILD CDS) and now we do. The good news for Bowie completists is that they won’t need to shell out for another version, as David isn’t actually on it.

I wouldn’t normally have posted an item about a CD that didn’t contain a Bowie track, but we did promise this tracklisting, and I thought it best to warn those of you that may have pre-ordered expecting Everyone Says ‘Hi’ to be on this version, as it was on the Canadian and European versions.

That’s not to say that Hoop isn’t worth buying of course. Though you may not be aware of many of the artists on this CD, as it’s more localised than the other versions, it’s still all for a very noble cause. Anyway, you can make up your own mind about the line-up now:

01 Marco Borsato – The Last Day
02 Acda & De Munnik – Morgen Wordt Alles Anders (The Times They Are A’Changing)
03 Ilse DeLange ? I Almost Believed
04 De Dijk ? Dat Zou Mooi Zijn
05 Krezip ? Just Like This
06 Van Dik Hout ? Help!
07 Trijntje Oosterhuis ? Feeding Off The Love of the Land
08 Ivar – Fly Like an Eagle
09 Avril Lavigne ? Knockin? On Heaven?s Door
10 George Michael ? The Grave
11 Paul McCartney ? Calico Skies
12 Ronan Keating – In The Ghetto
13 Celine Dion ? Prayer
14 Yusuf Islam ? Peace Train

Rex Ray Donation For Alboreto's Great Wall Walk

I’ll give you eyes of blue…

BowieNetter Alboreto has received a typically generous donation from all round top bloke Rex Ray for his charity walk that we told you about a couple of weeks back. (04/13/03 NEWS: DB & TV BACK BOWIENETTER IN AMNESTY GREAT WALL WALK) This is hot on the heels of the unique signed photo that was donated by Tony Visconti and that sold for the bargain sum of £142 ($225).

The print was designed by Rex for David’s September 1997 appearances at The Warfield Theatre in San Francisco, and not only does this look like it’s Rex’s own personal framed copy, (signed by DB and Rex!!) but the leggy Californian beauty has also donated all shipping costs, and will despatch directly to the winner. What a thoroughly decent chap he is.

David And Iman Attend Liv And Royston Vow Renewal

David and Iman in New York City yesterday.

But you, you’ve promise in your lovin’ eye…

David and Iman were among the guests at a ceremony for Liv Tyler and Royston Langdon in the Soho district of New York City yesterday. Lord Of The Rings beauty Liv, and husband Royston, (Singer of Spacehog who released a cover of Tin Machine‘s Crack City in 1996) invited David and Iman to the event at which they renewed their wedding vows. This follows the secret tropical wedding the pair enjoyed earlier in the month.

David had this to say about yesterday’s ceremony:

‘The highlight, apart from the quite lovely couple themselves, was how one little girl, Liv, could have such a huge extended family of thousands that included both Steve Tyler and Todd Rundgren. Elvis did not attend.’

So there ya have it… Good luck to the newly-weds, and may they spend many happy and loving years together.

Sony Reissues: The Facts

Spreading rumours and lies and stories they made up…Part 182

Well, we’ve said it before: “If you didn’t read it on BowieNet, it’s not necessarily true.” …and this is certainly the case with the Sony reissues schedule for three of David’s more recent albums: 1.Outside, Earthling and ‘hours…’. I Don’t normally like to post news stories that aren’t 100% confirmed, but the fuss surrounding a fabricated release date and the tracklisting for bonus CDs for these three has demanded some kind of news for you. This is how the situation stands at the moment, but even this is subject to change.

Yes it is true that 1.Outside, Earthling and ‘hours…’ are scheduled to be reissued some time this year. They have been pencilled in for a September 15th release date, though that date could change.

These will be mid price versions of the original single disc albums just to get them back on the shelves. There are also deluxe versions planned for 2004 that will include a bonus CD for each release.

These bonus discs will contain a dozen or so songs each, and the tracks will be drawn from rare and hard-to-find releases and promos. They will not contain unreleased and unfinished versions of tracks such as the recently distributed unfinished Outside stolen outtakes. That’s not to say these kind of things will never see the light of day, it just means these releases aren’t the place for them.

Stay tuned to BowieNet for all the accurate news.

Happy 11th Wedding Anniversary, Iman And David!

Show your love, show your sweet, sweet love…

Today is the eleventh anniversary of Iman and David’s wedding in Lausanne, Switzerland. Looking back over photographs of them together in the last twelve months, the ones from the Serpentine Gallery party last July (07/10/02 SNIPPET: DAVID AND IMAN MESSING ABOUT IN LONDON!) were pretty special, so we bring you one of them today. I know you’ll all join me in wishing them the happiest of days together!

Check out the BowieNet Member’s Message Boards for more greetings, and this great animation from the very talented Zardoz.
