If you want it, boys, get it here thing…
Around the time of the release (June 7th) of the Diamond Dogs 30th Anniversary Edition that I’ve been telling you about, (02.09.2004 NEWS: DIAMOND DOGS 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION & 03/06/04 NEWS: DIAMOND DOGS RELEASE DATE AND DIGITAL DOWNLOAD) we’ll be running a competition for stock copies of the beautifully packaged double disc.
As good as that is, a far more exciting prospect to anybody out there that’s as collecting berserk as I am, is an idea that Nigel at EMI has come up with:
“Blammo, do you think the BowieNet members would enjoy a competition where the prize was a true one-off Diamond Dogs collector’s item?”
“Possibly Nigel. What is it?”
“Well, how about the winner of a competition you dream up gets a one off Abbey Road vinyl acetate of the Diamond Dogs track of their choice?”
“Erm, they would probably squabble about it mate… and I don’t think any of them have record players anymore. Just run off one for me instead!”
“No Blam. Run along and create a competition now.”
And so…
I honestly think this is a truly generous prize, obviously unique and priceless at that… I would be happy if we received no entries at all so that I could get the acetate by default! But alas, it’s not to be.
So, just to go over what the prize is once again… The winner selects their favourite track from Diamond Dogs, and from the master tape a one-off acetate will be created at the legendary Abbey Road studios in London, complete with Abbey Road label, etc. I think the prize in this case deserves to go to a true lover of all things Diamond Dogs and for that reason I had originally intended to make the competition impossibly hard. But, I’ve relented and made it extremely hard instead. Actually, it’s not that bad.
Here’s what you have to do to enter. As you’ve no doubt noticed, I’ve created a montage of Bowie 45 single sleeves above. I’ve used ten different Diamond Dogs-related sleeves from around the globe, in that the A-side in each case is a track from the album. One of the ten is a four-track EP but the first track is still a track from Diamond Dogs.
All you need to do is simply identify all ten A-sides and send me a list of each of them with the corresponding country of origin. For example if you think the sleeve at the top left is the Lithuanian issue of Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family, then you should state: 1 = Chant Of The Ever-Circling Skeletal Family – Lithuania ….etc., until you have listed all ten releases in any order you like. Easy, eh?
The competition is going to run for a whole month so you’ve got plenty of time to research. If you don’t already know what the sleeves are, you should be able to find them all somewhere online. A good starting point is Chris Carter‘s excellent site:
Apart from the main prize which will be drawn randomly when the competition ends on April 30th, (winner to be announced May 1st) there will be six runner-up prizes for the first six correct entries. The first of these will win some appropriately doggy prize and the other five will each get one of the stock copies around the time of the CD release. All of these winners will still be eligible for the main prize too.
So get working and send your list of ten answers to me at TotalBlamBlam@davidbowie.com with a subject line of Woof Woof.
Usual rules apply. One entry only per BowieNet member, and your entry must come from your BowieNet e-mail account. The very best of luck to each and every one of you. Stay tuned for a whole load more BowieNet competitions over the coming days and weeks.
