Bbc 6 Music Bowie Day Details

Tune-in Saturday…

Marc ‘sissy’ Riley, the prissy presenter of the BBC 6 Music show, Rocket Science, has given me a breakdown of what you can expect to hear during his 2:00pm to 5:00pm (all times are UK) slot during next Saturday’s BBC 6 Music Bowie Day.

However, It’s worth tuning in from earlier in the day as Liz Kershaw kicks of the proceedings at 11:00am to 2:00pm and there will be a competition to win the Bowie back-catalogue on CD throughout the day.

Anyway, here’s a very fluid schedule to give you a flavour of what to expect during Marc’s three-hour show:

2:00 – 2:30 Exclusive John Peel interview which will hopefully cover David’s early days and John’s recollections of David’s BBC sessions…but be warned, there may be mention of mime.
2:30 – 3:30 An hour of Bowie-related music and chat including the very groovy Elbow in session. Apart from one of their own songs the band have hinted that they will perform a cover of a classic Hunky Dory tune. Also an Ian Mcculloch interview with Bunnymen music and chat…should be good, you know how big a Bowie fan Mac is. And finally in this hour, an Interview with another big (in every sense of the word) Bowie fan, Total Blam Blam, about BowieNet with more chances to win rare signed stuff and the like.
3:30 – 4:00 Bowie-related Parallel Universe with Rob Hughes of Uncut magazine.
4:00 – 5:00 Exclusive Marc Riley Bowie interview.

The exclusives continue after Rocket Science at 5:00pm with a whole hour of David’s concert from the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario, in Canada on May 14th earlier this year. “Tracks include Quicksand, Rebel Rebel and Sister Midnight.”

At 6:00pm there will be a repeat of the first part of the excellent Golden Years: The David Bowie Story. The remaining parts to be played throughout the week. “Mark Goodier presents the first instalment of a major three-part exploration of David Bowie’s illustrious career.”

The fun will continue from 7:00pm throughout the evening to a lesser or greater degree, and you will have to listen all day to be in with a chance of winning that Bowie back catalogue… as if you don’t already own it. Click on the image above to listen online.
