Earl Slick Competition Winners

“Run for the shadows…” Earl Slick in Amsterdam back in June.

Sunshine entered our Frankie’s days…

BowieNet members who frequent the message boards are already aware of the winners for this competition, as I announced the winners there earlier. But, before I list them again here, these are the answers that drove many of you to the very edge of insanity:

Q1 – What is Earl Slick’s real name? – Frank or Frankie Madeloni.

Q2 – What is the link between Earl Slick and PJ Proby? Well, the answer I was looking for was quite simply that Earl wrote and recorded a song called P J Proby. The track appeared on the albums: Live 1976, Slick Trax and Lost and Found.

Q3 – What are the names of Earl Slick’s two dogs? His two Newfoundlands are called Magilla (Gilly) & Sadie.

Q4 – What was the make and model of the guitar Earl Slick used on the Diamond Dogs Tour of 1974? This was the one question that most people spent time over. In the end I was accepting any answer with the word Gibson in it, as originally I only asked for the make, not the model. But, for those of you that won’t rest until you know the answer, it was actually a 1965 Gibson SG Jr.

Q5 – What inspired Earl to call his latest album Zig Zag? Earl named the album after the small town of Zig Zag in rural Oregon, where he lived for several years.

There were few wrong answers, though, as much as people seemed to enjoy this one, there were also relatively few entries.

Anyway, the ten BowieNetters, (favoured by The Random Generator) who each win a signed copy of Earl Slick’s latest album, Zig Zag, (featuring the song Isn’t It Evening (The Revolutionary) sung by David Bowie) are:

alboreto
caroline
celine
debivee
jamesstam
littlebombardier
pamelja
playingthegame
pretty_thing
tomas

And the winner of the grand prize of a genuine signed-by-Slicky Epiphone electric guitar, whose real name, appropriately enough, is Frank, (that’s the winner, not the guitar) is none other than message board heartthrob, the very talented ZARDOZ. Well done Frank.

The sooner all of you winners get your addresses to me, the sooner you’ll get your booty.

Thanx again to Earl Slick and Sanctuary Records for supplying us with such great prizes.

On a final note, if you thought this was a difficult contest, perhaps you’ll feel a little relieved that I didn’t proceed with one of my first ideas, which was to find the original photos in the Reality VT section using the thumb nails in the montage below…

See, I do have a heart.
