Lulu Auctions Ziggy On Ebay For Charity

He said I was his friend…

With a little over 24 hours to go, a photograph of David Bowie and Lulu from 1973 has already reached the incredible sum of £840.00 (approx. $1,465USD) on eBay.

Of course, it’s no ordinary photograph, it has hung on singer Lulu’s wall at her home since she received the print over thirty years ago, and she’s signed it for good measure.

It’s no ordinary eBay auction either. Celebrity chef, Nigella Lawson, who has a new lunchtime chat show on ITV in the UK, has an eBay page for which she encourages guests on the show to donate an item for auction, the proceeds of which go to breast cancer charities.

Lulu was a recent guest, as witnessed by BowieNetter jungtheforeman, and her generous donation is easily the most successful of Nigella’s auctions so far. Long before the auction has even ended it already commands the highest price of Nigella’s dozen or so auctions to date.

The picture itself (above), is from the same session as the one at the top of this piece. Many different shots from this session (including colour ones) were used in the press around the time of the release of Lulu’s Bowie/Ronson-produced The Man Who Sold The World/Watch That Man hit single. But, without double-checking, I have a feeling that this exact eBay shot is actually unpublished.

The photograph is framed and measures approximately 29? x 23?. Ignore the cloudy blurred bits, they’re just the reflection of the chap that took the shot for the auction.
