Ziggy Stardust Is Thirty Five Today

It was long, long ago, long ago…

As hard as it may be for some of us older fans to grasp, David Bowie’s 1972 classic album, The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, was released thirty five years ago today.

Eh? I don’t know about the last thirty five years, but where did the last five years go? I’m sure the 30th Anniversary release was only a couple of years ago!

Anyway, we’ll be celebrating Ziggy’s latest birthday tomorrow with the Ziggy Stardust 35th Anniversary Cover Contest…so stay tuned, kidz.

Happy 15th Anniversary David And Iman

David and Iman at the 2007 CFDA Fashion Awards at
The New York Public Library on Monday evening.

Heaven is smiling down?

Today is the fifteenth anniversary of David and Iman’s official wedding day in Florence, and I’m sure you’ll all want to join us in wishing them both a wonderful day.

Two wedding days mean two chances each year for us to send them our very best wishes and also two chances for them to exchange gifts, be they traditional crystal, or the modern alternative of watches.

BowieNet members can contribute directly to the well wishing by adding to the message board thread here.

Lots More Fs2s Press And Radio In The Uk

And me I’m on a radio show… (and in papers and magazines, and online, etc.)

There’s been a whole load more press and radio in the UK for Geoff MacCormack‘s most beautiful From Station To Station book.

First up, check out the Wednesday May 30th broadcast of Robert Elms’ show on BBC LONDON via the listen again link here. Forward to around 1 hour and 14 mins to hear a fifteen-minute interview with Geoff. Be quick as it’s only up until midday UK time this coming Wednesday the 6th.

For those that missed it, Geoff was also interviewed a couple of weeks back by Kevin Young for the BBC’s online news site. You can read the whole thing here.

Following on from last week’s excellent Sunday Times piece, (05.27.2007 NEWS: EIGHT PAGE FS2S SPREAD IN TODAY’S SUNDAY TIMES MAGAZINE) the EXTRA section in today’s Independent newspaper also has a five-page picture spread punctuated with more excerpts from the book, which you can read here.

Finally, the July edition of MOJO magazine has apparently devoted a bit to From Station To Station. I’ve not yet seen it, but I’ll report back when I have.

Buddha Of Suburbia Dvd And Cd Update

Elvis is English…

We told you about the upcoming reissue of The Buddha Of Suburbia on DVD and CD last month, (05.14.2007 RUMOUR: BUDDHA OF SUBURBIA TO GET DVD AND CD RELEASE?) and we promised updates as we got them…well, here are some.

Hanif Kureishi‘s award-winning The Buddha Of Suburbia BBC TV Series will be released as a two-disc DVD edition through 2 Entertain Video on September 17th.

David Bowie’s nine-track ‘soundtrack’ CD will be released on the same day via EMI, and it will be housed in the original US version of the sleeve, not dissimilar to the one above. It will also include David’s extensive sleeve notes that featured in the original European version of the release.

Here’s the tracklisting:

01 Buddha Of Suburbia
02 Sex And The Church
03 South Horizon
04 The Mysteries
05 Bleed Like A Craze, Dad
06 Strangers When We Meet
07 Dead Against It
08 Untitled No. 1
09 Ian Fish, U.K. Heir
10 Buddha Of Suburbia
(version) (featuring Lenny Kravitz on guitar)

As much as you’re all no doubt looking forward to the reissue of this often overlooked Bowie album, I’m sure none will be happier than David Bowie himself who had this to say regarding the The Buddha Of Suburbia‘s general unavailability: “The album itself only got one review, a good one as it happens, and is virtually non-existent as far as my catalogue goes – it was designated a soundtrack and got zilch in the way of marketing money. A real shame.”

There may be a different US release date, but we’ll let you know if that transpires.

Sony Japan Paper Sleeves Released Tomorrow

Tomorrow’s really on my mind…

As any regular visitor to these pages will know, Sony Music in Japan will release the most recent five David Bowie studio albums: 01. Outside, Earthling, ‘hours…’, Heathen and Reality, in the ‘paper sleeve’ format tomorrow. (02.11.2007 NEWS: SONY JAPAN TO ISSUE FIVE BOWIE CDS AS ‘PAPER JACKETS’ & 03.13.2007 NEWS: SONY MUSIC JAPAN ANNOUNCES MORE BONUS TRACKS)

As with the EMI back catalogue in the same format, these CDs have been beautifully reproduced, with all original inserts included.

Stay tuned for a contest in which we will be giving away ten sets complete with the slipcase we told you about recently. (05.03.2007 NEWS: SLIPCASE FOR SONY JAPAN PAPER SLEEVE RELEASES)
