Ziggy Stardust Cover Contest…we Have A Winner

Commencing countdown…one…lift-off

Well, we finally got here. Above is the overall winning entry of our BowieNet Ziggy Stardust 35th Anniversary Cover Contest.

With a whopping 40% of all of the votes cast for the top five, cover #4, which was created by BowieNetter arabia, took the top spot with ease.

This one was a simple idea that works on many levels, the most obvious being that Ziggy is still standing while all around him is gone, and it just looks great too.

I’ll be in touch with the winner and the four runners up with details of their prizes shortly, and I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank everybody that took part in this contest, entrants and voters alike.

I’d also like to thank the ludicrously talented Zardoz for all of his help in making this work. Well done people, give yourselves a big hand.

Ziggy Stardust Cover Contest…and At Number Two

Commencing countdown…two…

Today is the penultimate day in the five day rundown to the final of our BowieNet Ziggy Stardust 35th Anniversary Cover Contest.

At number two, with 18.5% of all of the votes cast for the top five, is cover #34, which was created by BowieNetter apaulinsane.

Very clever this one. As far as I can tell, Paul’s even used the alien family from The Man Who Fell To Earth for his surface of Mars scenario. Great stuff.

Come back tomorrow to find out the winner of this contest, who, you may have worked out by now, received a very large percentage of the vote.

Ziggy Stardust Cover Contest – In Third Place

Commencing countdown…three…

This is the third day in the five day rundown to the final of our BowieNet Ziggy Stardust 35th Anniversary Cover Contest. At number three, with 16.5% of all of the votes cast for the top five, is cover #42, which was created by BowieNetter Nth.

It’s a brilliantly executed juxtaposition of the original sleeve with a hint of the modern day Heddon Street, that’s well-deserving of it’s place in the top five.

Come back tomorrow to view the fourth cover in our top five.

Buddha Cd & Dvd Out This Month, Plus Ica Premiere

Screaming above Central London…

You may have noticed press ads starting to appear, such as the one above, for the upcoming The Buddha Of Suburbia CD & DVD.

As mentioned previously, (05.14.2007 RUMOUR: BUDDHA OF SUBURBIA TO GET DVD AND CD RELEASE? & 06.04.2007 NEWS: BUDDHA OF SUBURBIA DVD AND CD UPDATE & 06.19.2007 NEWS: THE BUDDHA OF SUBURBIA PRESS RELEASE) both the CD reissue and the first ever DVD release are due on September 17th.

Here’s the ad blurb for those that can’t make out the above…

————————————————————————————————————-

The Buddha of Suburbia album, originally released in 1993, is one of Bowie?s personal favourites. Bowie took lots of narrative provocation from Hanif Kureishi?s book and TV series of the same name and alongside his own personal reminiscences from the 1970?s created a textural backdrop to create an amazing album that is well worth discovering.

————————————————————————————————————-

Perhaps it’s fitting that the album is released just one day after the 30th anniversary of Marc Bolan‘s death on September 16th 1977, particularly as both he and his band, T Rex, are mentioned in the sleevenotes in the list of “influences and reminiscences from the 1970`s” thet helped flavour the album’s making.

Those of you that can’t wait until the release may want to make it to London on September 9th for a Q&A screening of The Buddha Of Suburbia at the ICA. The Q&A will be attended by the writer of the book, Hanif Kureishi, and the show’s director Roger Michell and producer Kevin Loader.

Go here for more about the ICA event including ticket details and a contest to win copies of both the CD and DVD…obviously we’ll be running a similar contest shortly.

Ziggy Stardust Cover Contest – At Number Four

Commencing countdown…four…

Day two in the five day rundown to the final of our BowieNet Ziggy Stardust 35th Anniversary Cover Contest. At number four with an impressive 15% of all of the votes that the top five received, is cover #3.

Possibly the darkest interpretation of the sleeve, the above is the fine work of antheanagua, who should be very proud of her contribution, and who, according to her blog, might consider spending more of her time on schoolwork, rather than BowieNet, now that the new term is about to start.

Either way, well done to you antheanagua. You should feel proud when I tell you that there was only 3.5% of the vote separating you from the person at number two.

Come back tomorrow to view the third cover in our top five.

Ziggy Stardust Cover Contest – The Top Five

Commencing countdown…five…

At last the votes are all in and counted for our BowieNet Ziggy Stardust 35th Anniversary Cover Contest.

As you know, we had a good turn out with a pleasingly high standard of entries, though we had to change the voting to members-only half way through, even if that member voting was a little lethargic.

I’ll be announcing the top five over the next five days, with the eventual winner being announced on Wednesday…you never know, we may even be able to scrape something together for the four runners up too.

So, first up, at number five with 10% of all of the votes that the top five received, is cover #14, which was created by littlebombardier, and obviously a fair few of you agree that it’s a fine piece of work.

Come back tomorrow to see who made it to number four.
