Leave ’em a note wishing “Happy New Year”…
As we enter a new decade, here’s a reminder of the one that David Bowie first dipped a musical toe into: the 1960s.
We’ve mentioned the Beatles to Bowie: The 60s Exposed exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London a few times now, (06.25.2009 NEWS: RARE BOWIE SHOTS AT NPG BEATLES TO BOWIE EXHIBITION & 10.14.2009 REMINDER: BEATLES TO BOWIE EXHIBITION OPENS THURSDAY & 12.19.2009 NEWS: DESIGN YOUR OWN BEATLES TO BOWIE POSTER) and as a celebration of both the new year and the final weeks of the exhibition, (it runs until January 24th) David Bowie has kindly signed a few of the accompanying exhibition postcards with a brand spanking new (whatever that means) 2010 signature.
On offer are five of the fully illustrated 208-page hardback exhibition catalogues and five press kits…both with the above postcard signed by Bowie 2010 and on which the ink is barely dry. (Actually, for those of you worrying about it, that last bit’s a lie. The ink is completely dry, it’s just a phrase often used to indicate the recent production of printed matter, or, as is the case here, the written word on paper with ink.)
The catalogue, above left, (not to scale!) includes every image in the exhibition as a full-page reproduction, along with informative text by curator Terence Pepper and an essay by Jon Savage. The signed card is contained within a pouch on the inside front cover and this version with the signed card is not available for purchase.
However, unsigned copies are obviously still available from the NPG shop, (£22.50) and a German language edition of the book is available directly from www.schirmer-mosel.com.
The press kit, above, isn’t quite as substantial as the exhibition catalogue. It’s an open out A4+ folder with the same David Wedgbury shot used throughout the campaign printed on the inside cover. Housed within the folder is a Beatles to Bowie 8-page leaflet, (including a lovely colour David Bebbington Bowie shot) a Beatles postcard and a few pages of press info pertaining to the exhibition…Obviously this press kit is not available for purchase and it also has the signed Bowie postcard.
To be in with a chance of winning, you need to tell us which you’d rather have, the exhibition catalogue or the press kit. You also need to list five photographers other than David Wedgbury who have Bowie photographs in the exhibition.
Once you have your preferred choice and your list of photographers, send them to me here. Don’t panic though, you have a couple of weeks to enter as the contest closes on Friday January 15th at midnight, New York time.
Usual BowieNet rules apply: Only one entry per BowieNet account and please remember you must enter using your BowieNet e-mail or at least supply your BowieNet user name. If you do neither of these things you won’t be eligible to enter.
Good Luck and Happy New Year, kidz!
