Uk Press Deny Kelly's Hero

Stories they made up…

The headline “Kelly Jones unimpressed with Bowie” caught my eye in a couple of recent UK news reports, particularly as I had the impression that the opposite was true.

So, without flavouring his opinion further with my reportage of it, here’s exactly what the Stereophonics‘ front man had to say regarding his time on the road with David Bowie in 2004…

———————————————————————————————————————–

“I wasn’t starstruck because Bowie wasn’t my idol. But I realised he was one of the only artists of any generation I’ve ever seen that’s still going forward.

“He’s not still harping on about some album he made in 1975.

“I thought it was amazing how somebody could still want to push themselves as an artist. That to me was a massive inspiration.”

Doesn’t sound like he was unimpressed to me…in fact, it took Scotland’s Glasgow Daily Record to report it straight, with the headline: Kelly’s Inspired.

Those of you wondering about the relevance of the picture above, well it’s of the moment that Kelly Jones had reason to feel anything approaching something negative about David Bowie.

The shot was taken at the moment a football trophy was lowered above The Stereophonics as they played a support set in Columbus back in May 2004.

The trophy was awarded to DRJ Dynamo in recognition of their absolute trouncing of Aberdare Athletico in a game of football, (or soccer as some would have it) the previous day.
