Deerhoof, Laurie Anderson, Last Film Night And More!

Thurday’s wild…

Tonight looks like being another great evening at The High Line Festival. Apart from the second night of KEN NORDINE and MIKE GARSON at The Kitchen, (see yesterday’s news item) DEERHOOF (above) and LAURIE ANDERSON are also performing.

David has been flying the Deerhoof flag for a long time now, If I recall correctly he first mentioned the band in an on-the-road bulletin during his A Reality Tour.

In a recent e-mail to me, around the time of the release of Friend Opportunity, he described the band’s music as: “insanely tuneful in a loony other place way”. I’m sure most of you know the band anyway, and if you do, you’ll know David is not wrong.

Check out Deerhoof’s mySpace page and take a look at their The Perfect Me video for a clue as to where they’re at. If you are in New York tonight and you choose not to go, you will feel very foolish about your decision at a later date. Fact!

Laurie Anderson (above) and her band play The High Line Ballroom tonight. Here’s a bit from Laurie’s site regarding her High Line shows…

———————————————————————————————————————–

Laurie Anderson’s power trio includes bassist Skuli Sverrisson and keyboard genius Peter Scherer as well as a combination of electronics vocals and violin. The Highline shows will be unique sneak previews of material from her new album for Nonesuch.

Anderson, known for her social commentary, expands her songwriting even further in that direction. The H&M High Line Festival is a new multi-discipline arts festival that will be curated each year by a different artist. The inaugural edition, curated by David Bowie, will run May 9 to 19, 2007. The ten-day mash-up of music, film, comedy, visual art and performance will highlight all of David’s favorite artists. The best of the best.

For those of you in a dilemma about which of the above you should check out tonight, it may help you to know that Laurie Anderson is also playing tomorrow, whereas Deerhoof aren’t.
