The Jean Genie… let yourself go!
Two more Mick Rock items from the MTR Bowie exhibition are up for grabs. They’re both connected and relate to the 1972 video shoot for The Jean Genie. You can reach each auction by clicking on the relevant image below.

Mick Rock’s shot of Ziggy and The Spiders performing The Jean
Genie in San Francisco, October 1972. Approx. 23″ X 17″ in the frame.
The first item is this wonderful black and white print from a photograph taken by Mick Rock at the video shoot for The Jean Genie. Mick Rock filmed and directed David Bowie’s promotional video The Jean Genie in San Francisco in late October 1972, around the time of the Winterland Auditorium concert.
Shot in a single day, the video was one of the very first made specifically for music TV shows such as TOTPs… even if they couldn’t quite grasp this revolutionary concept.
The ground-breaking video starred the late Cyrinda Foxe, (a good friend of David’s at the time) who lent him various items of her clothing during his short Ziggy Stardust tour of the US.
The video is also memorable for the studio footage of David performing with The Spiders (see above) and shots of Ziggy outside the seemingly appropriate Mars Hotel.

Print of Mick Rock’s original storyboard for the above The Jean
Genie video shoot. Print is approx. 17.5″ X 13.5″ in the frame.
The second item is a print of one of Mick’s original storyboards for this historic video. The storyboard has a few of the ideas used in the video such as: “Cyrinda – Jeans – Doing her Marylin bit” and “CUs (Close Ups) of David – Eyes – Lips – Hair – Hands”. Both these professionally framed prints were on display during the MTR Bowie exhibition last year.
